Cooyar Show
The second (and main) day of this year's 71st Annual Cooyar Show will be held at the Cooyar Showgrounds in Rangemore Road from early this morning (when the Cooyar Campdraft kicks off) through until late tonight. At 8:00am, the Show will get underway with Stud Beef Cattle judging and Young Paraders, followed by a Led Steers and Heifers competition, the opening of the pavilions and a display by Reptile Kingdom Australia. At 11:00am, judging for the Ute Muster will take place, followed at noon with Captain Awesome's roving entertainment. At 1:00pm, the sideshows will open along with face painting and show bags, and this will be followed by the Grand Parade at 2:30pm; the official opening at 2:45pm; and an under-1000cc post rip at 3:00pm. These will be followed by a Young Farmers Challenge (3:15pm); Motorbike Mania (3:35pm) and an Open Post Rip at 4:00pm. At 4:15pm, there'll be an inter-show Young Farmers Challenge between Goombungee, Crows Nest and Cooyar, followed by more Motorbike Mania (4:35pm), a Smash Up Derby (4:50pm) and Monster Truck Madness (5:15pm). After all this mechanised mayhem, the action will turn to pulse-pounding Bull Rides between 6:00pm and 8:25pm, followed by a Giant Fireworks Display at 8:30pm, and then live entertainment at the bar until the early hours. Admission to this year's Show is $20 for adults, $5 for junior high school students and free for under-12s.
Cooyar Campdraft
The second (and final) day of the two-day Cooyar Campdraft will be held at the Cooyar Showgrounds in Rangemore Road, Cooyar from 6:00am this morning until late in the afternoon. This year's campdraft is being run in conjunction with the 2020 Cooyar Show, so entry fees to the grounds will apply. Today's campdrafting events will focus on an $1800 Open Draft, which will be followed by a Junior Draft and a Juvenile Draft, and then the finals of yesterday's Novice Draft and this morning's Open Draft, both of which carry big prize-money. Since today is also Show Day, there'll be plenty of food and drinks available in the grounds, and there'll also be plenty of campsites available if you want to stay over. Everyone is welcome!
John Abbott & Co At The Palace - Nanango
Local barber John Abbott and his friends will be performing live at the Palace Hotel & Kitchen in Drayton Street, Nanango from 8:00pm until late tonight, serving up a mixture of toe-tapping pop and country. Party Rock Night With Mr Q - Kingaroy
The Commercial Hotel at the corner of Haly and Glendon Streets, Kingaroy will be hosting the popular Mr Q from 8:30pm until past midnight tonight. Tony Cisneros, his brother Gavin and Craig Walsh will be performing a tribute to everything that's great about Aussie rock with their usual verve, and a fun night out is pretty well guaranteed. The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. The Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Conquer Power Lift - Kingaroy
Conquer Fitness Studio at Shop 1, 27 Pound Street in Kingaroy will be holding the South Burnett's first-ever power lifting competition from 8:00am this morning. There'll be four divisions (for men and women of all ages weighing under 85kg or over 85kg) and entry fees are $50 per head, but all entrants need to complete an online reghistratyion form before they can take part. Saturday Cricket
Round 17 of the South Burnett's 2019-20 cricket competition will get underway at four venues across the region at 12:30pm today. In Kingaroy, Southern District Devils will play Kingaroy Services at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street; in Murgon, the Cherbourg will play Blackbutt at Murgon State High School; in Kumbia, the Kumbia Rattlers will play the Kallindale Warriors at the Kumbia cricket fields in Gordon Street; and in Wondai, Wondai will play the Murgon Diggers at the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the Bunya Highway north of the CBD. Canteens will be operating at some venues and spectators are very welcome. Meanwhile, in A Grade, Murgon Crusaders will be playing a major semi-final against the Gympie Colts at the Murgon Sportrsgrounds in Macalister Street after coming top of the table in this year's competition. Spectators and supporters are very welcome.
Kumbia Book Club
The Kumbia QCWA in Bell Street, Kumbia will be running their 4th Saturday of the month book club from 9:00am to 11:00am this morning. Pre-read books in good condition will be available to borrow or purchase for a gold coin donation, and guests are welcome to join in a discussion about books over a morning tea. Everyone is welcome! The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.

The South Burnett branch of Narcotics Anonymous will be holding its weekly meeting at Wondai from 6:00pm to around 7:00pm this evening.
