South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Kingaroy Markets
The third Saturday of the month Kingaroy Markets will be held at the Cheers Triangle end of the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are jointly run by the Kingaroy Rotary Club and Kingaroy Show Society and feature a great array of arts, crafts, fruit and flower stalls. New stallholders are always very welcome! Lumberjack Lane - Kingaroy
Popular local duo Lumberjack Lane will be performing in the front bar of the Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets, Kingaroy from 8:00pm until late tonight. Admission is free. More details from the hotel on (07) 4162-1380.
Barambah Shed Men - Murgon
The Barambah Shed Men will be holding their 40th meeting at the Murgon Men's Shed at 79 Macalister Street, Murgon (opposite Murgon Fruit Mart) from 4:30pm onwards this afternoon. Today's meeting will feature two very interesting guest speakers: Wayne Huston, a model plane builder and collector, and a member of IT Plastic Model Society of Australia, who'll talk about his hobby; and David Mollenhauer, who'll be talking and showing pictures of his time in Papua New Guinea working for the mission airline MAF. The cost of the meeting is $10 (which includes a meal, dessert, soft drinks, and tea/coffee), but young blokes under 15 can attend for free. NAIDOC Golf Day - Murgon

Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Atomic AOY Championship - Boondooma
The final qualifying round of the Atomic AOY Championship will be held at Boondooma Dam today (and also tomorrow). The competition will determine which angler will take their place in the B.A.S.S. Australia Team in that travels to the B.A.S.S. Nation Championship in 2019. It will also decide who wins Co-Angler of the Year, which carries a boat and trailer as a prize. The competition draws tournament anglers from all over the state, and the final weigh-ins will occur on Sunday. You can find out more details on the Net.
Saturday AFL - Kingaroy
After several weeks on the road, the South Burnett Saints men's and women's teams will be playing welcome at-home matches at Kingaroy's Lyle Vidler Oval (just next to Bean Growers) in Youngman Street today. The women's team will be playing the Toowoomba Tigers at 12:50pm, and they'll be followed by the men's team at 2:30pm, who'll also be playing the Tigers. A bar and canteen will be operating in the grounds and spectators are very welcome!
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Mini Mods Carnival - Wondai
The South Burnett's annual Mini Mods rugby league carnival will be held at the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the Bunya Highway in Wondai today. This carnival always attracts hundreds of junior players from all over the Wide-Bay Burnett, and matches will start at 8:20am and continue through until the afternoon, with 100 separate games being played across multiple fields. The U7s, U8s and U10s are all 15-minute games and will wrap up around 2:00pm, while the U12s are 19-minute games and will wrap up with the final scheduled to start at 5:00pm. Spectators and supporters are very welcome! (Note: U14s and U16s Mini Mods will be held at the same venue tomorrow morning)
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Saturday Soccer - Nanango and Kingaroy
The lucky 13th round of this year's local football competition will be played in Nanango and Kingaroy today. In Nanango, home team Panthers will play Barambah's Bears at the Burnett Street sports fields, with the Women's Division hitting the park at 1:00pm, followed by the Men's Division at 3:00pm. And in Kingaroy, home teams Gunners and Wests will battle it out for supremacy on on the hallowed grounds of Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street, with the Women's Division sides playing at 4:00pm and the Men's Division playing under lights at 6:00pm. A canteen will be running at both venues and spectators are very welcome. Meanwhile, junior soccer games will be played at the Kingaroy junior soccer fields in Oliver Bond Street this morning for the final time this season. Next week they'll relocate to the Wondai soccer fields at the northern end of the Wondai Sportsgrounds.
South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip
Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. Bus fares are $120 return from Noosa, and bikes can be hired for $20 if you don't have your own. South Burnett locals are also welcome to take part, and there's $40 rider and bike transfers from Kilkivan to Kingaroy available if you need help getting back home. More details? Library Closures - Kingaroy and Nanango
The South Burnett Regional Council's libraries in Glendon Street, Kingaroy and Drayton Street, Nanango will both be closed from 9:00am to 12:00 noon today for upgrades. Both libraries will reopen for business as usual from 9:30am on Monday, July 23.
