Winter Solstice
- Today is the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year when the sun reaches its lowest point below the Equator. While chilly Winter weather will stay with us for another few months, from today forwards the days will gradually lengthen (generally by a few minutes each week) until they reach their greatest duration at the Summer Solstice in late December. In ancient times, the Winter Solstice was often a time for festivals because it marked a significant turning point in the year even though it wasn't quite mid-Winter (which won't occur until July 15). Tasmania is marking this with the Dark Mofo festival held in chilly Hobart.
Hivesville QCWA Meeting
