South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Linville Heritage Festival
The first day of the 2nd annual Linville Heritage Festival will be held at Linville and Moore today to celebrate 111 years since the first train arrived at the former timber town. Today visitors can grab a map and take a self-guided history walk around the village, enjoy a BBQ breakfast at the Linville Community Hall, watch chainsaw art being created, have lunch at the Linville Hotel or the General Store & Café or order a picnic box from The Picnic Society then come to the hall to listen to famous author Everald Compton (a Linville old boy) who'll be giving an entertaining free talk from 3:00pm to 4:30pm for the first 50 people to register. This will be backed up in the evening with a concert by the well-known chamber music ensemble Angel Strings, who'll perform Vivaldi’s Four Seasons plus other repertoire ‘under the stars’ in the Linville Community Garden for an audience of 80 people (tickets are $30 and can be booked online). Local resident and bush poet Damian Bathersby will also premiere his bush poem The Guardian of Linville in the second half of the performance. Afterwards you can camp overnight for free at Ditchman’s Park across the road if you're staying for tomorrow's festivities.
Diva At The Dairy - Sandy Ridges
Acclaimed South Burnett vocalist Louise Winton - who was recently the soloist for Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday celebration hosted by the Australia's Governor General David Hurley - will be performing in concert at Adavale Farm at 2172 Burnett Highway, Sandy Ridges at 4:00pm this afternoon, singing songs made famous on stage or the screen. There will be a coffee van on site if you want to purchase food and drink during the show, but guests should BYO chairs or blankets. Overnight camping facilities will also be available if you want to stay over and enjoy an immersive farm experience. Tickets to the concert are $23 including booking fees and they can be booked online.
Moore Hall Markets
The monthly Moore Hall Markets will be held in the grounds surrounding the Soldiers Hall just off the D'Aguilar Highway in Moore's CBD from 6:30am to around noon this morning. The markets are held on the third Saturday of each month and new stallholders are always welcome.
Workshop For Creatives - Blackbutt
A special workshop for creatives will be held at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall in Bowman Road, Blackbutt today. The workshop - "Nail That Bio" - will run from 9:30am to 11:30am and will teach participants how to write a professional artist biography that will catch a reader's attention. It will be led by Trudi Leigo from the Central Queensland Regional Arts Services Network. The workshop is free but bookings are essential to ensure adequate COVID-safe seating. SBCO Pop Orchestra Concert - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Community Orchestra will be launching their new Pop Orchestra (formerly the SBCO Youth Orchestra) with a concert at Kingaroy's Uniting Church Hall at the corner of Alford and Youngman Streets at 2:30pm this afternoon. Kingaroy Friendship Markets
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are jointly run by the Kingaroy Show Society and feature a great range of arts, crafts, fruit and garden stalls, plus unusual bric-a-brac. New stallholders are always very welcome! Nanango Campdraft
The Nanango Show Society will be hosting the first day of its annual two-day Nanango Campdraft at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street today, starting at 6:00am and continuing until dusk. Entry is 100% free for spectators and if you start feeling peckish watching all the events, the Showground's canteen and a bar will be running, too. More information? Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. The Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282. Note: All patrons and stallholders are asked to observe proper social distancing to stay safe.
Proston Parkrun
The Proston parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston at 7:00am this morning. Mr Q - Kingaroy
Popular South Burnett band Mr Q will be performing at the Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets, Kingaroy from 9:00pm until late tonight, delivering the band's popular mix of classic pub rock and new faves. Mr Q pretty much burned the house down again at their last Com.Pub concert in September, so the Commie have invited them back to do it all over again. Family Trivia Night - Woolooga
A Family Trivia Night will be held at Woolooga Hall in Woolooga this evening. Doors open at 6:30pm (for a 7:00pm start) and for $10 per head, guests can enjoy a fun night of trivia, games and a light supper. The hall's bar will also be open if you need liquid refreshments, and everyone is welcome.
Alex The Frenchman - Kingaroy

Social Bowls - Yarraman
The Yarraman Bowls Club in Margaret Street, Yarraman will be holding a social bowls day for bowlers and non-bowlers alike this morning. Names need to be in by 9:30am for a 10:00am start, and the $15 green fees include bowls games and lunch. The Nanango Theatre Company will be hosting Plays On Film from 7:00pm tonight at their playhouse at the corner of Elk and George Streets, Nanango. The evening will screen film clips of many of the group's theatrical productions, including this year's stand up comedy workshops, accompanied by wine, cheese and soft drinks. Saturday Vax Clinic - Kingaroy
Queensland Health will be running a free Pfizer vaccination clinic at Kingaroy State High School's Sports Hall in in Markwell Street, Kingaroy from 9:00am to 2:00pm today. With the State's borders now forecast to open earlier than December 17 - possibly as early as December 6 or 12 - today's clinic is probably the last window to get double-vaxxed before this occurs and new restrictions begin to limit unvaxxed and partially-vaxxed people to life on the fringes. Walk-ins for first or second doses are welcome - just bring along your Medicare card.
Linville County Convicts

Dimities Cottage at 49 Haly Street in Wondai will be running another of incredibly popular all-you-can-eat Seafood Buffets from 6:30pm this evening. Saturday Cricket - Nanango, Kingaroy & Wondai
There's another big Saturday of cricket today with Gympie A-Grade, South Burnett Seniors and South Burnett Juniors matches all in action. In Round 11 of the Gympie A-Grade Competition - the semi-final of the 40 Overs Competition - Murgon Crusaders will play Wooroolin Warriors at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy, while the Gympie Colts will play Harlequins at Gympie (both matches start at noon). And in the seventh round of the South Burnett Seniors competition, Wooroolin Vikings will play Wooroolin Colts at Kingaroy State School; Nanango will play Kingaroy Services at the Alan Downie Sports Fields in Burnett Street, Nanango; and Wondai will play Cherbourg at the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the Bunya Highway north of Wondai (all at 12:30pm) while Murgon has the bye. Finally, in Juniors, Kingaroy Pineview Brangus will play Kingaroy Wamuran Timbers at Kingaroy State School, and Nanango will play Kingaroy Westlink at the Alan Downie Sports Fields in Burnett Street, Nanango in the Stage 2 competition; and in Stage 3, Nanango will play Kingaroy, also at the Alan Downie Sports Fields (all junior matches start at 8:00am). Spectators are very welcome at all games.
