South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
84th Annual Blackbutt Show
The 84th annual Blackbutt Show will be held at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Hart Street, Blackbutt from 5:00am this morning (when the gates open) until late tonight. This year's Show will feature a full range of horse events (anything from led breed and ridden breed through to hacks and rider classes). There'll also be a big roll-up of cattle and poultry along with the sub-chamber Young Judges, Handlers and Paraders competitions; the popular woodchop and chainsawing competitions; lots of ring events; a Dog Show; pony rides; and plenty of fun for children including face painting, a baby animal farm and a puppet show. As usual the Show will also feature a great spread of pavilion exhibits; sideshow alley; showbags; and trade displays. After dark there'll also be a fireworks display, followed by live entertainment until midnight. Admission this year to $15.00 for adults or $5.00 for high school students and pensioners (children under 12 are admitted free). More details? Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Les Miserables - Kingaroy
Les MiserablesThe debut performance of the South Burnett Musical Comedy Society's production of Les Miserables - the world's longest-running and most popular musical - will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 2:00pm this afternoon. This is an outstanding 3-hour show with a cast of 75 singers and performers staged in a unique way, and will only be seen in the South Burnett. Tickets are $25 for adults or $20 for students and concessions (under-5s are free) and tickets can be obtained at the door unless sold out earlier. Note: Three additional performances will also be held at the Town Hall next Friday at 7:00pm; and next Saturday and Sunday at 2:00pm. You can read our review of the show by clicking here.
Surplus Goods Auction - Nanango
The South Burnett Regional Council will be holding a surplus goods auction at the Council Depot in Dalby Street, Nanango at 9:00am this morning (gates open at 8:00am). There'll be as range of furniture, trailers, mowers, pavers, ladders, stretchers, medical aid equipment, computers, drums, tanks, pumps and a donga on offer, and there'll be a forklift available after the sale is over to help load heavier items. Kingaroy Markets
The third Saturday of the month Kingaroy Markets will be held at the Cheers Triangle end of the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are jointly run by the Kingaroy Rotary Club and Kingaroy Show Society and feature a great array of arts, crafts, fruit and flower stalls. New stallholders are always very welcome! Moore Markets
The monthly Moore Markets will be held outside the Moore Soldiers Memorial Hall off the D'Aguilar Highway in Moore from 6:30am to around 1:00pm this morning. The markets feature hand painted china; hand made jewellery; hand crafted dolls; quilts; biscuit tin banjos; jade; wooden toys; delightful handmade bags; plants; bric-a-brac; antiques and collectables; tea cosies; baby clothes; tea towels; candles; soaps; cakes; jams and pickles, and more. 7-A-Side Cricket Family Fun Day - Kumbia
The Kumbia Cricket Club (aka The Rattlers) will be holding their annual 7-A-Side Cricket Family Fun Day at the Kumbia Cricket Club inside the race track off Bell Street, Kumbia from 8:00am to around 5:00pm today as a joint fundraiser for the Kumbia Kindy and The Rattlers. Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. South Burnett Shed Men - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Shed Men will be holding their 56th meeting at BGA Agriservices in Youngman Street, Kingaroy (next to the Showgrounds) from 4:30pm to 7:30pm this afternoon. BGA's Manager Mark Schmidt will give a brief talk about the company, and he'll be followed by guest speaker Colin Webber from Caloundra, who'll share his experiences after a life-changing trip to Israel. All men and young blokes are very welcome along, but they should BYO food and drinks, tea/coffee (a BBQ will be supplied and cooks will be available). There'll also be a donation box to help cover costs and support a suggested charity. Everyone is welcome but to help plan the seating an RSVP by May 14 would be greatly appreciated. More details? Ladies Night Out - Kingaroy
In conjunction with the South Burnett Shed Men (see entry elsewhere this page), Glenice Larsen will be holding a Ladies Night Out at 19 Avocado Crescent in Kingaroy from 4:30pm to 7:30pm tonight. The meeting is open to all women and girls, and Anna Schwenke will be the special guest speaker, talking about her treks through steamy SE Asian jungles. Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Club Come & Try Day - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club will be holding a Come & Try day on the main oval of Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 9:00am to 11:00am today. Young riders aged 4 to 16 will be able to come and try their hand at no cost under the supervision of an experienced team of officials and volunteers. And any participant at the Come & Try will be eligible to claim a free Recreational Motorcycling Australia Licence (valued at $130) just for participating. This licence lasts for 12 months, and insures riders for participating in the sport, offering them more access to motorcycle venues, events and resources. More details? Would you like to learn old time dancing without any pressure or embarassment? South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip
Noosaville's Outbike Australia will be running a South Burnett Rail Trail Day Trip for cyclists today. The day trip will pick up participants at Noosa, Noosaville and Gympie and will offer three options: an easy ride from Kingaroy to Murgon (45km sealed); a hard ride from Murgon to Kilkivan (45km unsealed); and an extreme 90km ride from Kingaroy to Kilkivan. Bus fares are $120 return from Noosa, and bikes can be hired for $20 if you don't have your own. South Burnett locals are also welcome to take part, and there's $40 rider and bike transfers from Kilkivan to Kingaroy available if you need help getting back home. More details? Saturday Rugby League - Murgon
The local rugby league competition will be suspended this week, and league fans should head to Murgon for the 2nd annual Domestic Violence Awareness Shield at Murgon Showgrounds. This free event will see teams from Murgon, Cherbourg, Wondai and Kingaroy battling it out for the Stanwell 9's championship, with Juniors in the U6s, U8s, U10s and U12s playing from from 8:00am in the morning across six fields. A-Grade teams will start playing one another 1:30pm and at 2:30pm there'll be an U18s match between the South Burnett and Warwick, followed at 3:45pm by an U16s girls match between the South Burnett and Hervey Bay. This will be followed by the A-grade Grand Final at 5:00pm where one local team will win the honour of being crowned the 2018 Stanwell 9's Grand Champions. In addition to a jam-packed day of league action to promote awareness of domestic violence, there'll also be free amusement rides, face painting and NRL legends on hand to help entertain the kids. DJ Tyson - Kingaroy

Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy
The local soccer compretition will be suspended this so the top two teams in the Men's and Women's Divisions can play off for the annual President's Cup at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy. This year, Wests will play Gunners in the Men’s Division, and Nanango will play Barambah in the Women’s Division. The Women's Division match will kick off the day at 4:00pm, and they'll be followed by the Men's Division under lights at 6:00pm. A canteen will be operating in the grounds and spectators are very welcome to come along and see some great football as the leaders battle it out.
Smooth & Groove - Kingaroy
