South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
South Burnett Community Fun Day - Nanango
The third annual South Burnett Community Fun Day will be held at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 12:00 noon to about 6:00pm today as a fundraiser for LifeFlight. Activities will include a Top Gun Challenge where registered participants competing for cash prizes have to tackle an obstacle course, tug 'o war and a ute pull); Noah's Performance Pig Racing; laser tag; a dunk tank for local celebrities; a merry-go-round and jumping castles for children; a car show & shine; and live music by Skin n' Bone. There'll also demonstrations and displays by local community groups along with great food and a licensed bar. Everyone is welcome - particularly families - and admission is free.
Scots In The Bush - Boondooma
The third day of this year's four-day Scots In The Bush Scottish and Celtic Festival will be held at Boondooma Homestead at 8262 Mundubbera-Durong Road at Boondooma today. The Festival features Scottish pipe bands and dancers, folk singers and poets as well as Scottish food, games and more; and special guests this year include the Ishka Ceilidh Band, Celtic Psychosis, Velcro, Celtic Thunder Oz, the Noosa Pipe Band, Mouldy Haggis, the Rum City Highland Dancers and many others. The festival's amusing Highland Games will be held at 12:30pm today; a licensed bar will be running throughout the event and meals will be available too, as well as on-site camping. Tickets for the full four days are $75 per head for adults (which includes a bush camping site) but you can just but a day ticket if you prefer (children under 14 are free). More details? South Burnett Shed Men - Booie
The South Burnett Shed Men will be holding their 61st meeting at Nev & Jason's Machinery Shed at 88 Jorgensens Road, Booie from 4:00pm to 7:00pm this afternoon. The meeting will feature Kilkivan's Police Sergeant Hans Van Kempem as guest speaker and there'll also be heaters, a bonfire, and hot coals for real cooked steaks, billy tea and damper on site. All men and young blokes are very welcome, but they should BYO food and drinks, tea and coffee (a BBQ will be supplied and cooks will be available). There'll also be a donation box to help cover costs and support a suggested charity. Everyone is welcome, but to help plan the seating an RSVP would be greatly appreciated. Official Opening Of The Link - Nanango
The Link - the connecting route between the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail terminus at Yarraman and the South Burnett Rail Trail railhead in Kingaroy - will be officially opened at the former Nanango Railway Station platform at Pioneer Park in Nanango at 10:30am this morning by representatives from Heritage Bank Nanango and Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington. The Link makes use of an old stock route and low traffic roads to connect the two rail trails, and provides a safe route for cyclists, walkers and horse riders to pass between them along a trail that's 305km combined, end to end. Heritage Bank Nanango paid for the signage of the route, as well as a new brochure now available at some South Burnett Visitor Information Centres which maps it.
Public Meeting - Proston
Proston Queensland Ltd (PQL) and members of the Proston Round Table will be hosting a public meeting at Proston Town Hall in Rodney Street, Proston at 1:45pm this afternoon (for a 2:00pm start) to canvass ideas about ways to positively develop a block of seven shops in Blake Street between the Spar supermarket and the library that PQL recently acquired. Ideas that may be discussed include creating a community information centre with historical displays to encourage visitors to stay in the town longer and attracting particular types of retailers to Proston in the future, but all options are on the table and all ideas - no matter how unusual - are very welcome. Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Kingaroy Markets
The third Saturday of the month Kingaroy Markets will be held at the southern end of the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are jointly run by the Kingaroy Rotary Club and Kingaroy Show Society and feature a great array of arts, crafts, fruit and flower stalls, along with a Rotary Club sausage sizzle if you get peckish. Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Moore Hall Markets
The monthly Moore Hall Markets will be held outside Moore Soldiers Memorial Hall on the D'Aguilar Highway at Moore from 6:30am to around noon today. The markets feature arts, crafts and bric-a-brac and the nearby Kai Lounge will be open for morning teas and lunches.
Kingaroy Bowls Club Bingo

Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy
A Minor Semi-Final and two Major Semi-Finals of the South Burnett's local soccer competition will be played at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street in Kingaroy this afternoon. Today's matches will see the Wests play Gunnettes in the Women's Division at 3:00pm, followed by two men's matches at 5:00pm and 7:00pm. A canteen will be running on site and spectators are very welcome.
David Lynch Jr - Kingaroy
Popular entertainer David Lynch Jr will be performing at the Kingaroy Hotel-Motel at the corner of Youngman and Haly Streets in Kingaroy from 8:00pm until late tonight. Admission is free. More details from the hotel on (07) 4162-1677.
Byte Nite - Murgon
The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will be hosting a Byte Nite from 7:00pm to around 11:00pm tonight for Murgon and Cherbourg youngsters. Children can play a range of fun and entertaining games and pursue other amusements for free during the course of the night, as well as get a free meal and a ride home afterwards if they need one, all under the supervision of caring local volunteers. Byte Nite is an initiative of the PCYC and Murgon Business and Development Association to tackle youth crime in the district by giving youngsters something to do on a Saturday night, and anyone who'd like to volunteer to help this community-driven initiaitive in any way should contact Acting Sgt Rene Bond at the PCYC on (07) 4168-1889 for more information.
Saturday Rugby League - Kingaroy, Nanango and Cherbourg
Rugby league fans who'd like to support breast cancer research should head to T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy for the Red Ants annual Pink Day today. Apart from league, the day will be offering raffles, a jumping castle and a baked goods stand, and everyone is encouraged to wear pink. Today the Red Ants will play Wondai in U6s/U8s at 8:30am; U7s/U9s at 9:20am; U10s at 10:45am; U12s at noon; U14s at 12:55pm and U11s at 2:30pm before the A-grade match at 3:30pm. In Nanango, the Stags juniors will play Central Burnett juniors at Fred Kassulke Oval on the D'Aguilar Highway, with U8s playing at 10:00am; U10s at 10:45am; U12s at 11:30am; and U14s at 1:00pm. And in Cherbourg, the Hornets will play Murgon at Jack O'Chin Oval in U6s/U8s at 10:00am; U10s at 11:00am; U12s at noon; and in A-Grade at 1:00pm. Canteens will be running at all three venues and spectators are very welcome.
