South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Proston Christmas Carnival
The annual Proston Lions Christmas Carnival will be held in Railway Park, Proston from 5:00pm to 9:00pm this evening. Organisers say this year's Christmas Carnival will be bigger and better than ever with an array of amusement rides and food stalls, a ham wheel, raffles, and a variety of other Christmas goodies on offer. Children can get to enjoy lots of free entertainment and free gifts, courtesy of the Carnival's sponsors (the Proston Lions, Proston Men's Shed, Hivesville Markets, Proston Round Table, the South Burnett Regional Council and community members). There'll also be amusements, live music and carol singing - and Santa will be putting in an appearance too. Meanwhile, in nearby Blake Street, the NB Department Store, the Jacaranda Tearooms and Proston Health & Beauty will all be open for late night shopping from 5:00pm so adults can take a break and get in some Christmas shopping while the children are being amused at the Carnival. South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be holding their Christmas Cup race meeting at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street from 4:00pm this afternoon (when gates open) until late tonight. The feature races of tonight's meeting will be the Queensland Super Sedan titles and Round 3 of the Street Stocks Series, but there'll also be fierce competitions between Production Sedans, Lightning Sprints and Modlites for a full night of adrenaline-fuelled action. Racing will start at 4:30pm and entry is $25 for adults and $15 for pensioners and students (with school ID). Children 12 and under are free, and family passes (two adults and three students) are $65. A canteen will also be running at the track. Boondooma Homestead Christmas Gathering
Boondooma Homestead on the Durong-Mundubbera Road will be holding its annual Christmas Gathering for volunteers, locals and friends of Boondooma Homestead at the homestead's big barn from 4:30pm this afternoon. Guests should BYO drinks, meat for a barbecue, and a plate of finger foods, sweets or salads to share. Santa will be arriving for the children at around 6:30pm and there'll likely be some carol-singing too. Everyone is welcome! PS: Parents are asked to bring along a wrapped and tagged gift to the value of about $5 for each of their children. These will be put into Santa's bag for presentation tonight).
Dance - Booie Hall
A dance will be held at Booie Hall at 1226 Booie Road, Booie from 8:00pm until late tonight. Old Time dance music will be supplied by Mark's Music and there'll be a great supper, novelties and a lucky door prize, too. Admission is $10 for adults, or $5 for high school students and non-dancers. Everyone is welcome - especially younger people - and you can find out more by phoning Marie on 0439-794-027.
Kilkivan Christmas Carnival
Kilkivan's annual Christmas Carnival will be held at the Kilkivan Showgrounds at 88 Mudlo Road from 6:30pm until late tonight. The Christmas Carnival will feature Christmas Carols sung by students from Kilkivan State School; a bar and canteen; live entertainment from popular performer Graeme Jensen; a free jumping castle for children and lots of family fun. Everyone is welcome and there's no admission charge. This year's Carnival has been organised by the Kilkivan P&C, Touch Football Club, Swimming Club and Kilkivan Kindy and is sponsored by Kilkivan Post Office, Kilkivan General Store, Kilkivan Auto Centre and Powers Transport.
Kingaroy Bowls Club Bingo
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Murder At Crimson House - Kingaroy
The final performance of the South Burnett Musical Comedy Society's theatre restaurant production "Murder At Crimson House" will be held at the Trades Hall inside Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy at 6:30pm tonight. Tickets for a two-course dinner and the show are $40 per person and need to be booked online.
Nanango Parkrun
The Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event (search for "Ros Gregor Trail" to find the group - but if you can't find it, just register and bring along the barcode).
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January. SBCO String Quartet - Kumbia
The South Burnett Community Orchestra's String Quartet will be performing a concert at Kumbia Hall in Bell Street, Kumbia at 3:00pm this afternoon, accompanied by a High Tea. Tickets - which include the High Tea afterwards - are $20 per head and can be purchased from Kingaroy Office Central in Haly Street, Kingaroy or online. For catering purposes, bookings need to be made by Wednesday, December 11.

Christmas Carols - Nanango
Acclaimed opera singer Calista Walters accompanied by Cassie Midgley will be performing Christmas carols at the "Little Cathedral In The Bush" (ie Our Lady Help Of Christians Catholic Church) in Gipps Street, Nanango at 7:00pm tonight. Tickets to the concert are $20 for adults or $15 for concessions, and it will be followed by coffee and cake. Tickets can be obtained in advance from the Nanango Visitor Information Centre in George Street or by phoning 0400-402-361. Tickets will also be available at the door tonight. Mr Q Live & Loud At The Palace
The South Burnett's most popular good times band Mr Q will be performing live (and loud) at the Palace Hotel and Kitchen in Drayton Street, Nanango from 7:30pm until late tonight. Kilkivan Equestrian Centre Official Opening
Kilkivan's new $2 million Equestrian Centre at 88 Mudlo Road, Kilkivan (the Kilkivan Showgrounds) will be officially opened at 2:45pm this afternoon by Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliff and Gympie Mayor Mick Curran. The official opening will be followed by the Centre's first-ever event - barrel racing - which will start at 3:00pm and conclude around 6:00pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend both events.
Beer & Burger Night - Kingaroy
Huskys Burgers outside SupaIGA in Avoca Street, Kingaroy will be holding a Beer and Burger Night until 8:30pm this evening. Guests planning a night on the town can buy their beer at takeaway prices from the bottle shop located diagonally opposite, then bring them over to Husky's for a sit-down burger dinner. Basket Of Hope Toy Run
Collectors taking part in the annual Basket Of Hope Toy Run will gather outside Mitre 10 in Rogers Drive, Kingaroy at 9:30am this morning for a sausage sizzle. After this, they'll proceed to Kingaroy Showgrounds at 11:00am to deliver soft toys collected in this year's run to the Salvation Army, who in turn will distribute them to local families in need this Christmas. Spectators and well-wishers are very welcome, as well as anyone who wants to make a last-minute donation.
Bikes & Beers Ride - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Mountain Bike Club will be holding its third annual Bikes And Beers Ride today. Riders should meet up outside PSM Probike in Haly Street, Kingaroy at 3:30pm for a 3:45pm roll off, and can choose between two ride options: a Mt Wooroolin ride on the single trails, or a South Burnett Rail Trail Ride of 10 to 15kms (or whatever you can manage). Both rides are great for beginners, and afterwards all riders will convene back at the Commercial Hotel in Glendon Street for some refreshments and a chat. Katherine Outback Experience Tour - Widgee
Multiple Golden Guitar winner and horseman extraordinaire Tom Curtain will be bringing his Katherine Outback Experience Tour to the Widgee Bushman's Campdraft Arena at Upper Widgee Road, Widgee from 5:00pm to 7:30pm this evening (gates open at 4:30pm). The show will feature a one-hour KOE Show with horses and dogs, followed by a 30 minute intermission with live music from special guests, and then an hour of live music by Tom and guests, featuring both old favourites and new numbers from his recently released 4th album. A cash bar and food will also be available onsite, but BYO is not permitted. Tickets are $30 for adults or $15 for students aged 5-17 (under-5s are free) if booked online in advance, or $40 and $25 if purchased at the gate tonight.
Byte Nite - Murgon
The South Burnett PCYC will be hosting a Byte Nite from 7:00pm to around 11:00pm tonight for Murgon and Cherbourg youngsters at Murgon's Jubilee Swimming Pool in Gore Street. Children can play a range of fun and entertaining games and pursue other amusements for free during the course of the night, as well as get a free meal and a ride home afterwards if they need one, all under the supervision of local volunteers. Byte Nite is an initiative of the PCYC and Murgon Business and Development Association to tackle youth crime in the district by giving youngsters something to do on a Saturday night, and anyone who'd like to volunteer to help this community-driven initiative in any way should contact Sgt Rene Bond at the PCYC on (07) 4168-1889 for more information. Living In The 70s - Kingaroy
The Commercial Hotel in Glendon Street, Kingaroy will be hosting the Living In The 70s Show Band concert from 8:00pm until late tonight, featuring all the hits from artists like Fleetwood Mac, The Sweet, Supertramp, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Boz Scaggs, Rod Stewart, AC/DC, Skyhooks, The Angels, TMG and many more. The Yarraman Progress Association's monthly Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held on the second Saturday of every month. Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today - a week earlier than usual due to Christmas. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's Studio building just a short stroll across the park. The BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts for early bargain hunters. Saturday Cricket
Round 10 of the South Burnett's 2019-20 cricket competition will get underway at four venues across the region at 12:30pm today. In Kingaroy, Kallindale Warriors will play Wondai at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy; and Kingaroy Services will play the Nanango Scorpions at Taabinga State School in Kingaroy Street; in Murgon, Cherbourg will play the Kumbia Rattlers at Murgon State High School; and in Blackbutt, Blackbutt will play the Southern District Devils at the Blackbutt cricket grounds. Canteens will be operating at some venues and spectators are very welcome. Meanwhile, in A Grade, Murgon Crusaders will be playing away in Kenilworth against Kenilworth.
