97th Annual Murgon Show
The gates will open at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon at 7:00am this morning for the main day of the 97th Annual Murgon Show. This year's Show will feature a very big range of cattle and horse events and things will move into full gear early on with judging for dairy and stud beef cattle, followed by poultry judging. There'll also be horse events for and Tractor Pulls in the main arena; a bumper Sideshow Alley; pavilion and trade exhibits (open from 9:00am); and all the fun of a great Aussie fair. This year's Murgon Show will be officially opened at around 1:15pm in front of the grandstand, followed by the Grand Parade at 2:00pm. There'll also be a spectacular fireworks display mid-way through the evening at around 7:00pm. Other things to look out for this year include a Ute Show; Tyrone's Circus; a Fashion Parade; chainsaw racing; and a Rodeo at 6:00pm in the evening. Admission to this year's Show is $10 for adults; $8 for concessions; $5 for high school students; or $25 for a family (2 adults plus 2 high school age children). Children under 12 are admitted free. More details? Phone the Murgon Show Society on (07) 4168-1427.
Public Meeting - Murgon
A public meeting will be held at Murgon's QCWA Rooms in Macalister Street from 10:00am to around noon this morning to look at the possibility of starting up a Murgon QCWA branch again. The branch closed in 2012 due to an ageing membership and a lack of new members, leaving Murgon as the only major town in the South Burnett without a QCWA branch. However, many new people have moved into the Murgon district over the past eight years and it may now be possible to reopen the branch again, so the purpose of today's meeting is to explore that idea and assess local interest. The QCWA are one of Queensland's most respected organisations and all women are very welcome to attend. You can also obtain more details by phoning Lois on 0407-965-094 or by emailing them
