South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
South Burnett Speedway Club Trophy Dinner
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be holding their annual Trophy Dinner at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 6:00pm tonight (for a 6:30pm strart). This annual semi-formal, two-course dinner celebrates the winners from the previous year's racing, and since 2019 marks the Speedway's 50th anniversary it will be a particularly special event with memorabilia and highlights from the past half century along with live music, raffles and a lucky door prize. Tickets are $35 for adults, $25 for students aged 12-16 or $10 for children under 12 and can be booked by phoning Tanya Barron on 0487-003-404 by close of business on Monday, July 8. Everyone is welcome along!
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held on the second Saturday of every month. Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed run at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.
Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January. Byte Nite - Murgon
The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will be hosting a Byte Nite from 7:00pm to around 11:00pm tonight for Murgon and Cherbourg youngsters. Children can play a range of fun and entertaining games and pursue other amusements for free during the course of the night, as well as get a free meal and a ride home afterwards if they need one, all under the supervision of caring local volunteers. Byte Nite is an initiative of the PCYC and Murgon Business and Development Association to tackle youth crime in the district by giving youngsters something to do on a Saturday night, and anyone who'd like to volunteer to help this community-driven initiative in any way should contact Acting Sgt Rene Bond at the PCYC on (07) 4168-1889 for more information. Note: Tonight is the final Byte Nite for awhile - the PCYC will be seeking funding to enable it to continue in the future.
Kingaroy Bowls Club Bingo
The Kingaroy Bowls Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
Queensland Winter Craft Festival - Kingaroy
The second (and final) month of the Queensland Winter Craft Festival will be running throughout July at the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (opposite the peanut silos) from 9:00am to 1:00pm today. The Gallery is hosting exhibitions from the Tangled Threads Textile Art Group, the South Burnett Gem and Fossicking Club and silk artist Cecile Arndt this month, and it will also be running a number of art workshops covering everything from rug making and silk painting to pottery and creating bags from rags. Hip Hop & Rock Concert - Cherbourg
The Potter's House Christian Church will be holding an all ages Hip Hop & Rock Concert at the Les Stewart Snr Sports Complex in Collins Road, Cherbourg from 3:00pm this afternoon. Cooyar Spit Roast
The Cooyar Hotel on the New England Highway at Cooyar will be holding a Spit Roast Night with live music from Kieran Lillis in their Outback Bar behind the pub from 6:30pm until late tonight. The cost is just $20 per head for a great two-course winter feed, but seating is limited so a booking is a must: (07) 4692-6185. There's also free camping nearby if you'd like to stay over.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Seafood & Sax - Murgon
The Australian Hotel in Lamb Street, Murgon will be holding a Seafood & Sax Night with the South Burnett's very own Sultan of Sax Tom McKenzie from 8:00pm until later tonight. The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning meeting today, kicking off with a cuppa at 9:00am. Clean Up Kingaroy
The Clean Up Kingaroy group will be holding a two-hour cleanup operation in Kingaroy this afternoon. Participants should meet at O'Neill Square at the end of Kingaroy Street at 2:00pm for a two-hour community volunteer clean-up along Kingaroy Street (bring a hat, gloves, closed-in shoes and a garbage bag - and sunscreen, a water bottle and tongs as well, if you like). But if you can't make it today, a second clean-up will be held at the same time and location tomorrow. Everyone is welcome to take part. More details? Dance - Booie Hall
A dance will be held at Booie Hall at 1226 Booie Road, Booie from 7:30pm until late tonight. Old Time dance music will be supplied by Sounds Of Country and there'll be a great supper, novelties and a lucky door prize, too. Saturday Soccer - Nanango and Kingaroy
With the winter school vacation wrapping up, the local football competition will return from its winter break today with the 13th round being played in Nanango and Kingaroy. In Nanango, home team Panthers will play the Barambah Bears at the Burnett Street Sports Fields, with the women's division kicking off at 1:40pm, followed by the men's division match at 3:00pm. And in Kingaroy, home teams Gunners and Wests will play one another on the lush fields of Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, with the women's division playing at 3:15pm, followed by the men's division at 5:00pm. Canteens will be running at both venues and spectators are very welcome.
Barambah Beekeepers Meeting - Kingaroy
The Barambah Beekeepers will be holding their Saturday morning meeting at The Honey Shed near the Knight Street end of Pound Street, Kingaroy (the green shed on its own in the park) from 8:00am to around noon this morning. The group exists to support existing beekeepers and provide advice and assistance to anyone who'd like to take up bee-keeping, either as a hobby or commercially.
