South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Proston State School Fundraiser Golf Day
The Proston Golf Club on the Proston-Boondooma Road will be hosting a fundraiser for Proston P10 State School to help send students on their annual camp. The day will start at 12:30pm with a 1:00pm tee-off and play will take the form of a 3-person ambrose. This will be a fun game of golf for players of all abilities to aid a great cause, and a top day out on the greens is pretty well guaranteed. Loan clubs are available on the course if you don't have a set of your own, and on-site camping is also available if you want to stay over. Green fees are just $16.50 per head (or $8 for children) and this includes a BBQ and dessert. There'll also be a multi-draw raffle and a chip and putt competition for $100 in prizes. Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January. Gamez Knight - Kingaroy
A Gamez Knight will be held at the Kingaroy Town Common Hall in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy from 10:00am to 7:00pm today. This monthly event - now held on the second Saturday of every month - allows participants to play any of as many as 120 different board games on offer, either by themselves or with family and/or friends. Playing fees are just $5 per head for 4 hours or $15 per family and the event is a great way to get out of the house, meet new people and get social. Saturday Rugby League - Murgon
This weekend's local league competition will be played at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon across two fields. Field 1 will kick off with four U12s matches at 8:00am (Kingaroy 1 vs Murgon 2), 8:45am (Kingaroy 2 vs Cherbourg), 9:30am (Nanango vs Murgon 1) and 10:15am (Kingaroy 3 vs Under 43kg). These will be followed by two U14s matches at 11:00am (Kingaroy vs Nanango) and 11:55am (Chinchilla vs Murgon), and then - for a bit of fun! - six Over 35s matches that will be played between 12:50pm and 2:05pm. These will be followed by an U18s clash between South Burnett and Goondiwindi at 2:20pm, and then the day's two A-grade matches: Murgon Mustangs vs Kingaroy Red Ants at 3:35pm, and then Wondai Wolves vs Cherbourg at 5:00pm. Meanwhile on the second field, four U6s matches will be played simultaneously at 8:00am; three U8s matches simultaneously at 8:45am; and then three U10s matches at 10:00am (Kingaroy 1 vs Nanango), 10:50am (Kingaroy 2 vs Murgon 2) and 11:40am (Murgon 1 vs Wondai/Cherbourg). A canteen and bar will be operating all day and everyone is welcome!
Annie Junior The Musical - Kingaroy
St Mary's Catholic College in Kent Street, Kingaroy will be presenting their second performance of Annie Junior - The Musical at the Maryknoll Centre in the school's grounds at 6:00pm this evening. Annie Jr is based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning musical by Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin. Tickets are just $9.50 for adults, $5.50 for students and pensioners or $24.50 per family, and they can be booked online. Two other performaces will be held at the same time and place next Friday and next Saturday.
Yarraman Men's Shed
The Yarraman Men's Shed at the end of Mill Street, Yarraman will be holding one of its regular get-togethers today. The Men's Shed is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and new members are always welcome. More details? Send them an email
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Cooyar Spit Roast
The Cooyar Hotel on the New England Highway at Cooyar will be holding their latest Spit Roast Night for 2021 in the Outback Bar behind the pub from 6:30pm (when serving starts) until late tonight. The cost is $20 per head for a great two-course spit roast buffet feed along with live music until late - plus fire drums to stay warm - but seating is limited so a booking is essential: (07) 4692-6185. There's also free camping nearby if you'd like to stay over.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Note: All patrons and stallholders are asked to observe proper social distancing to stay safe.
MisFitz At The Palace - Nanango
Popular South Burnett duo MisFitz (aka Claire and Rob Fitz-Herbert) will be performing at the Palace Hotel in Drayton Street, Nanango from 7:30pm until later tonight. Junior Motorcycle Club Race Day
The Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club will be holding a Race Day on the main oval of Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy this morning, with gates opening at 8:00am and racing from 10:00am until around noon. Community Consultation Meeting - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Regional Council will be holding a Community Consultation Meeting at the northern end of River Road Park in River Road, Kingaroy at 9:00am this morning to discuss plans to erect a 1.2m fence around the northern portion of the park so it can be used as a cricket ground by the Kingaroy Junior Cricket Association. All interested residents in the area who use the park are very welcome to come along, hear more about the plan and express their views.
Wheelchair Basketball - Murgon
The Suncoast Spinners and South Burnett Peace of Mind are hosting Wheelchair Basketball at the South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon, from 10:00am to noon today. Wheelchair basketball is inclusive, which means isn’t just for people in a wheelchair - it's for all people aged 6-70, and wheelchairs will be supplied. Saturday AFL - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Saints will be playing two home games today at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy as part of this year's Darling Downs competition. The Saints' women's team will be taking on Toowoomba's Tigers at 12:45pm, followed by the men's team playing the Tigers at 2:30pm. A bar and canteen will be running onsite and spectators are always welcome.
Family Bingo Night - Woolooga
Woolooga State School P&C will be holding a Family Bingo Night at Woolooga's Community Hall next to the Woolooga Hotel from 5:00pm (when the doors open) until late tonight as a fundraiser. Admission is $20 if you want to play bingo all night, and there'll be soft drinks, tea, coffee and a sausage sizzle available for purchase if you get hungry or thirsty. Everyone is welcome!
Nanango Campdraft
The second day of the three-day 2021 Nanango Campdraft will be held at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from early this morning until late this afternoon. This year's campdraft was rescheduled from its normal date but large numbers of competitors are still expected for the event. Admission to the campdraft is free for spectators, and food and drink will be available from the Showgrounds' canteen
