South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Nanango Spring Race Meeting
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their Spring Race Meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'Aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 11:00am to around 5:00pm today. The race club's popular licensed bar and BBQ will be operating under the extended covered area; seating will be available undercover or outdoors on the lawn; and there'll be plenty of bookmakers and an on-course tote in the betting ring to take your wagers, along with the indoor race club canteen. The meeting's fashion theme will be "Spring Has Sprung" and guests who dress to it can be in the running for some great Moffatdale Ridge spot prizes. This will be a 5 race meeting and buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Glendon Street Bus Depot (12:00 noon) and Nanango's Fitzroy Hotel at 12:30pm. The first race will leave the barriers around 1:30pm but gates will open at 11:00am so go-getters can get a head start on that all-important socialising. Heritage Nanango Country Muster
The third day of the annual four-day Heritage Nanango Country Music Muster will be held at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 9:00am until late today. This year's festival will feature more than fourteen top bush balladeers and traditional country music artists including Dean Perrett, Brian Letton, Lloyd Back and Jeff Brown. A canteen and bar will be operating throughout and caravan and camping spots are available at the showgrounds (phone 0429-631-273 to book a site). Today's events include a walk-up concert (9:00am to 11:00am) followed by an invited artists concert on stage that will run thro9ugh until late tonight. Comedy Workshop Graduation Performances - Nanango
The Nanango Theatre Company will be presenting a one-time performance by graduates from their recent Stand-Up Comedy Workshop at their playhouse at the corner of Elk and George Streets, Nanango from 7:00pm to around 10:00pm this evening. Tonight's entertainment will feature a dozen side-splitting acts, and it will be the first time anything like this has ever been performed in the South Burnett. Tickets are $20 for adults or $15 for concessions and are strictly limited. They can be booked online
Atomic Dollz - Wondai
High impact rock covers band Atomic Dollz will be performing at the Cecil Hotel in Mackenzie Street, Wondai from 7:30pm until late tonight. Admission is free and the hotel's kitchen will be running if you want dinner or a snack. More details? Phone the Cecil on (07) 4168-5460.
Rugby League Grand Finals - Cherbourg
The 2021 South Burnett Rugby League Grand Finals will be played at Jack O'Chin Oval in Broadway Street, Cherbourg today, kicking off with four U10s matches: Murgon 1 vs Kingaroy 1 at 11:00am; Nanango vs Cherbourg at 11:30am; Murgon 2 vs Kingaroy 2 at noon; and then the winners of the 11:00am and 11:30am games in a play-off at 12:30pm. These will be followed by U8s at 1:00pm, and then the U14s Grand Final between Murgon and Kingaroy at 1:30pm before the day concludes with the A-Grade Grand Final between the Murgon Mustangs and Cherbourg Hornets at 3:00pm. Entry to today's games is $5 per head, a canteen will be running in the grounds and everyone is very welcome to come along and enjoy what promises to be a great day of footy action.
Byte Night - Murgon
The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will holding their fortnightly Byte Nite from 6:00pm to around 8:30pm this evening for Murgon and Cherbourg youngsters. Children can play a range of fun and entertaining games and pursue other amusements for free during the course of the night, as well as get a free meal and a ride home afterwards if they need one, all under the supervision of caring local volunteers. Byte Nite is an initiative of the PCYC and Murgon Business and Development Association to tackle youth crime in the district by giving youngsters something to do on a Saturday night, and anyone who'd like to volunteer to help this community-driven initiative in any way should contact Sgt Rene Bond at the PCYC on (07) 4168-1889 for more information.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282. Note: All patrons and stallholders are asked to observe proper social distancing to stay safe.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Wooroolin Community Markets
The Wooroolin Community Markets will be held inside the Wooroolin QCWA Rooms on the Bunya Highway at Wooroolin from 6:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. The markets offer stalls, a sausage sizzle, fresh produce, plants and crafts and are run on the 2nd Saturday of every month except January. Yarraman Men's Shed

Fishing Information Day - Yallakool
The Kingaroy Sport Fishing Club will be holding a Fishing Information Day at Bjelke-Peterson Dam from 8:30am to 11:00am this morning, followed by a free sausage sizzle lunch. This free event will provide lots of fishing information for people ranging from those completely new to fishing up to more experienced anglers who'd like to improve their skills. Anyone aged 7 or older is welcome to attend, but all under 18s need to be accompanied by an adult. To find this event, just drive into Yallakool and look for the signs.
Hivesville Progress Association AGM
The Hivesville Progress Association will be holding its Annual General Meeting at Memorial Park in Main Street, Hovesville at 5:00pm this evening, followed by a sausage sizzle. All members - as well as potential new members and residents - are very welcome to attend.
Godspell - Kingaroy
Kingaroy State High School will be presenting the final two performances of the 1971 off-Broadway musical "Godspell" at the Kingaroy Performing Arts Centre at the end of Markwell Street, Kingaroy at 1:00pm this afternoon and 7:00pm tonight (doors open 30 minutes before each performance). Godspell recounts the story of the gospels according to St Matthew and has been running around the world ever since it debuted in New York. One of the songs from the show - "Day By Day" - has also become a classic hit. Tickets to today's performances are $20 for adults and $15 for concessions and they can be booked in advance by phoning KSHS on (07) 4160-0666.
Wheelchair Basketball - Murgon
South Burnett Peace of Mind will be hosting a round of Wheelchair Basketball at the South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon, from 10:00am to noon today. Spectators are very welcome. More details? Phone Rhonda on 0488-110-955.
Junior Soccer Grand Finals - Wondai
South Burnett junior soccer teams will be playing their 2021 Grand Finals at the Wondai soccer fields (just next to the Wondai Sportsgrounds) on the Bunya Highway, Wondai today. In U12-13s, the action will kick off at 9:30am with a clash between Barambah and Nanango, followed by a Grand Final between the Mister Minit Redbacks and Black's Electrical Redbacks at 10:30am. And in Cadets, Nanango will play Conpak Earthmoving Redbacks on a second field at 9:00am, followed by a Grand Final between Dalby and Chinchilla at 10:00am. Spectators are very welcome.
Saturday Cricket - Kingaroy
Now that the weather is warming up, South Burnett cricket will begin to resume for the 2021-22 season today, kicking off with the first round of the Gympie A-Grade Competition between the Wooroolin Warriors and Murgon Crusaders. The match will be played at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy (just next to Beangrowers) from 12:00 noon. A bar will be in operation and spectators are very welcome.
Gamez Knight - Kingaroy
A Gamez Knight will be held at Unit 13, 119 Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 10:00am to 7:00pm today. This monthly event - now held on the second Saturday of every month - allows participants to play any of as many as 120 different board games on offer, either by themselves or with family and/or friends. Playing fees are just $5 per head for 4 hours or $15 per family and the event is a great way to get out of the house, meet new people and get social. Two playing sessions will be held from 10:00am to 2:00pm, and again from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. Everyone is welcome! More details?
