South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Goomeri Twilight Markets
Goomeri will be holding its quarterly Twilight Markets and Food Vans night from 4:00pm to 8:00pm this evening at Goomeri Market Square behind Joe's Grand Hotel. The markets feature a range of food vans from Gympie and the Sunshine Coast offering dishes that are usually unavailable locally (unless you cook them yourself) along with market stalls and entertainment, and are run as a fund-raiser for the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival. Previous Twilight Markets have attracted close to 1000 people to this family friendly, pet friendly and COVID Safe outing, and everyone is welcome!
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa at 8:00am. Father's Day Fun Day - Proston
The Golden Spurs Hotel at the corner of Blake and Rodney Streets in Proston will be holding a Fathers Day Fun Day today, kicking off with a BBQ breakfast and followed by pig racing, a pig on a spit, lots of prizes and give-aways and live music tonight. Free overnight camping is available nearby and a courtesy bus will be operating from Kingaroy to Murgon as well. This is a COVID Safe event so while there's no admission charge, bookings are required. You can make one or reserve a seat on the bus by phoning Di and Andy at the Spurs on (07) 4168-9069.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets, but they'll be operating in a COVID Safe way. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Yarraman Men's Shed
The Yarraman Men's Shed at the end of Mill Street, Yarraman will be holding one of its regular get-togethers today. The Men's Shed is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and new members are always welcome. More details? Send them an email
Junior Cricket Training - Nanango
A Junior Cricket Training Day will be held at the Nanango Scorpions cricket grounds in Burnett Street, Nanango from 10:00am to noon today. This COVID Safe event is open to all South Burnett junior players eligible for and interested in U13s and U12s representative cricket (ie boys born after September 1, 2007 and girls born after September 1, 2006; registered with a local club in the SBCA competition). Only players and coaches/assistants will be permitted onto the grounds, with separate entry and exit points in use. Hand sanitizer will be available and strict adherence to social distancing rules will be required. All players and staff must also sign in, and players must also bring their own drinks/snacks and playing equipment, preferably including their own 142gm leather cricket ball.
Saturday AFL - Kingaroy
AFL fans can enjoy the second-last round of this year's shortened 10-round Darling Downs AFL competition in Kingaroy today when the South Burnett Saints host the Toowoomba Tigers on their home ground at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy. The South Burnett Saints women's team will play Toowoomba at 12:50pm, and they'll be followed by the Saints' men at 2:30pm and - for the very first time! - a Reserve Grade men's game at 4:30pm. Spectators are very welcome, but will need to either stay in their cars or observe proper social distancing. Everyone is welcome!
Grey Nomads Stableford- Proston
The Proston Golf Club on the Proston-Boondooma Road west of town will be holding the first day of its annual, two day Grey Nomads Stableford from early this morning until late this afternoon (the event concludes tomorrow). As its name implies, this event is largely aimed at visitors to Proston but spectators are very welcome. More details? Phone 0455-3416-902.
Yarraman Horse Ride
CANCELLED: The annual 25km Yarraman Horse Ride will depart from the Yarraman Showgrounds on the New England Highway at 8:30am this morning for a guided ride around the Yarraman district. Riders need to BYO horse(s) and tack, and because this year's ride was limited to 100 riders due to COVID it's all booked out. The Ride will be preceded by a pre-ride talk at 7:30am, and a BBQ lunch and drinks will be on sale during the ride. Tonight there'll be a $20 per person spit roast dinner available, along with a bar and live music. Free on-site camping is also available on Friday and Saturday nights. More details? Macrame Afternoon - Kingaroy
CANCELLED: A Macrame Afternoon will be held at the SB Care Hall at the corner of Kingaroy and Avoca Streets in Kingaroy (just opposite SupaIGA) from 3:00pm to 5:30pm this afternoon as a fundraiser for Relay For Life. Today's event will be led by Villa Sapi and all materials, nibbles and drinks will be provided. Tickets are $75 per head and only 20 are available. You can book them or get more information through the event's Facebook page. Note: This event was cancelled on Monday, August 31 due to new COVID restrictions.
Kingaroy Art Gallery Open Day
CANCELLED: The Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, Kingaroy (just opposite the peanut silos) will be running an Open Day from ?9:00am to 1:00pm this morning to showcase their new exhibitions. Everyone is welcome and admission is free. Note: This Open Day was cancelled on Monday, August 31 due to tightened COVID restrictions. However, the Gallery will be open from 10:00am to 4:00pm Mondays to Fridays as usual if you'd like to pop in and view the latest offerings.
