Our Site Policies
South Burnett Online is a responsible member of the Internet community
and we value all our online visitors highly. To ensure that
you always find your visits and interactions with us as pleasant and rewarding
as possible, we've put the following policies in place. They cover the key
issues of privacy, spam, security, advertising, cookies and
copyright.
Our Privacy Policy
South Burnett Online respects the privacy of all our visitors and
we conform to the principles laid down in Australia's Privacy Amendment
(Private Sector) Act 2000
-
In practice, this means that if we obtain any personal information
about you, that data will not be used or disclosed unless one or more of
the following apply:
-
you've provided your consent
-
you'd expect the information to be disclosed
-
it's in accordance with this Privacy Policy
-
we believe that use or disclosure is necessary where we suspect fraud or
unlawful activity has been, is being or may be engaged in
-
the use or disclosure is required or authorised by law
-
we believe the use or disclosure is necessary for the operation, development
or administration of South Burnett Online or services provided by South Burnett
Online
-
we believe that the use or disclosure is necessary to assist a law enforcement
body or national security body in the performance of its functions; or
-
we reasonably believe it's necessary to prevent any serious and imminent
threat to any person's life, health or safety or the general public's health
or safety.
We do not resell or remarket personal data and the only information
we actively collect about visitors to any of our web sites is raw statistical
log data which does not (and cannot) identify individuals. In addition,
any emails that you send us are held in strict confidence between
you and us. We will not forward any email correspondence to third parties
without your express consent and approval.
If you have any questions about privacy that we haven't answered here, please
feel free to
email us and simply ask.
We'll respond to your concerns promptly. You can also ready more about your
rights to privacy on the
Australian Federal Privacy
Commissioner's web site.
South Burnett Online has a strict anti-spam policy in place.
-
Spam (unsolicited promotional email) has reached plague proportions on the
Internet. It's rapidly become a blight that:
-
irritates millions of people around the world each day
-
wastes enormous amounts of time, bandwidth and other resources
-
is gradually making email unusable as a communication medium
We refuse to have anything to do with it. So do all our SBO Mall merchants
and network clients.
If you subscribe to any South Burnett Online mailing list you will
only receive legitimate news in any newsletters emailed
out to you. In addition, newsletters will be infrequent (usually monthly,
quarterly or bi-annual) and you'll be able to unsubscribe from any
newsletter at any time by following the simple instructions attached to each
newsletter. Further, if you elect to unsubscribe from any newsletter service
your data will be destroyed when you do so.
South Burnett Online will instantly terminate the account of anyone
associated with us who spams. We invite you to
report any suspected
instances of spam to us for immediate attention.
Cookies and Advertising
We use third-party advertising companies - primarily Google Adsense - to
serve ads when you visit our website. These companies may use information
(not including your name, address, email address or telephone number)
about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements
about goods and services of interest to you.
If you'd like more information about this practice and would like to know
your options in relation to not having this information used by these companies,

here.
South Burnett Online itself doesn't use cookies.
Our Copyright Policy
Finally, all material which appears on South Burnett Online is either directly
copyright to us or copyright to others but used either under licence or with
permission.
-
South Burnett Online respects copyright and other intellectual property
rights. Where we're given permission to use the work of others this is always
disclosed with full source attribution.
We also defend our own copyrights at law. So be fairly warned.
Anyone who:
-
attempts to use any graphical or textual materials from any
of our web sites and/or the web sites of our clients; or who
-
attempts to copy and/or imitate our original ideas or systems; or
who
-
attempts to pass themselves off as having some association with us
that they do not
can expect to find serious trouble entering their lives.
We've had to adopt this policy because - unfortunately - several people and
companies have attempted to do some or all of these things since South Burnett
Online commenced operations in March 2000. They apparently did this in the
belief that we either wouldn't act against them or that their actions would
go unnoticed. Neither of these assumptions was correct.
