An official round of the Barbeques Galore National Barbecue Championship will be held in Kingaroy as part of the BaconFest festival in August.

There will be $5000 in cash and trophies up for grabs in the Sunpork Smoke-Off BBQ Competition.

Competition categories will include a Sunpork Promoter’s Challenge of Pork Belly then Pork, Pork Ribs, Chicken and Beef Ribs.

The cost to enter is $275 per team (maximum of four) which includes the Australian Barbecue Alliance (ABA) sanction fee.

The competition will be held across August 25-26.

Competitors will have to submit their results to the judges on Sunday: Pork Belly (10:00am), Beef Ribs (11:00am), Pork Ribs (noon), Pork (1:00pm), and Chicken (2:00pm).

The results will be announced at 4:00pm.

The barbecue competition is only one of the events scheduled for the inaugural BaconFest, which gets underway on the Friday night (August 24).

Other attractions include a Wine and Swine cocktail party, a Long Table Breakfast, a Family Bacon Carnival, Kevin Bacon Film Festival, Bacon Eat Street and live music from The Porkers.
