Police have confirmed that a 27-year-old man and seven-year-old boy were killed in Tuesday afternoon’s truck crash on the Bunya Highway near Murgon.

Initial investigations indicate that a white Nissan Navara dual cab ute and a prime mover pulling a tri-axle trailer collided head-on near the Moffatdale turn-off.

The semi-trailer was travelling east and the 4WD was heading towards Murgon.

The ute’s driver, a 27-year-old man, and a seven-year-old boy – who was a rear seat passenger – died at the scene.

Two girls, aged one and six, also rear seat passengers, were treated at the scene and taken to Murgon Hospital.

The six-year-old was later airlifted to the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in Brisbane for further treatment.

The one-year-old girl has since been released from hospital.

The driver of the semi-trailer, a 52-year-old man, was not injured but was treated for shock.

Police have appealed for anyone who was travelling along the Bunya Highway near the intersection around the time of the incident to contact them, particularly anyone with dashcam footage.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
