The Boxing Day storm caused widespread damage across parts of the South Burnett; while many residents have now made repairs, some still need help

Most people who suffered damage from the Boxing Day storm appear to be getting on with repairs themselves, but some people still need support.

The South Burnett Local Disaster Recovery Group met last Thursday to get an update from relevant support agencies about what requests for assistance were still being received.

They were told most people seem to be getting on with the clean-up and repairs independently, but there was still a need for ongoing support for some impacted residents.

The Local Disaster Recovery Group have created an Information Kit to help residents find relevant support agencies.

The Information Kit can be viewed on the Council’s website and hard copies are available at all Council Customer Service Centres.

Mayor Keith Campbell said he wanted to encourage people to come forward if they were in difficulty.

“Community members are sometimes reluctant to ask for help, (but) it is important that we do not underestimate the human, economic and emotional impacts on residents,” he said.

“We want to ensure that members of our community who are in need of some form of support are not overlooked.”

Deputy Mayor Kathy Duff said that BlazeAid currently has four teams working on the ground to assist residents with repairs to fences and other structures that were damaged or destroyed by the storm.

Anyone requiring assistance should contact BlazeAid directly on 0455-190-151.
