The winners of this year’s South Burnett Regional Council Christmas Lights competition will be announced at Wednesday’s Council meeting … just in time for a visit by Gina Rinehart next week.

On Monday, December 18, Mrs Rinehart will be visiting Kingaroy in her capacity as Patron of Volleyball Australia, and will be bringing the World Championship Volleyball Cup with her.

The cup was won in Sydney recently by former Kingaroy local and St John’s Lutheran School student Taliqua Clancy.

Taliqua and her on-court partner Mariafe Artacho del Solar became the first Australian women to win a World Tour gold on home soil with their victory over the Chinese beach volleyball team at Manly.

The win will move Taliqua and Mariafe a step closer to being selected for next year’s Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

The World Championship Volleyball Cup trophy will be on display at St John’s Lutheran School Hall at 84-94 Ivy Street in Kingaroy from 6:00pm to 6:20pm.

It is the first time the giant trophy has been seen in Kingaroy, and South Burnett residents are invited to come and view it.

Mrs Rinehart has been the major sponsor of the South Burnett Regional Council’s annual Christmas Lights Competition over the past three years.

After the trophy’s display concludes, she will be taking a tour of this year’s Christmas Lights displays with South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell.

In 2016, Mrs Rinehart also pledged a $600,000 donation over three years to support the growth of the Lady Bjelke-Petersen Community Hospital.

“Mrs Rinehart has been very generous to the South Burnett community,” Mayor Campbell said.

“Her continued kindness and generosity has had a great impact in our region, and we appreciate it very much.”

The Mayor has invited members of the Kingaroy Chamber Of Commerce and Industry to the trophy showing.

A similar invitation has also been extended to Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington, who was elected as Queensland’s Opposition Leader on Tuesday.
