Minister for Agricultural Industry Development Mark Furner

December 11, 2017

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced her new Ministry on Monday, with several major changes including a new face at the helm of a renamed Agriculture portfolio.

Mark Furner, the Member for Ferny Grove and the former Local Government Minister and Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, is the new Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries.

He replaces Dr Anthony Lynham who was acting Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries and Minister for Rural Economic Development after Minister Bill Byrne resigned earlier this year due to ill health.

Mr Furner is a former truck driver and organiser with the Transport Worker’s Union. He rose to become Queensland Secretary of the National Union of Workers.

South Burnett residents will be interested to know that Mr Furner is a strong supporter of the Queensland Cancer Council’s Relay For Life and has raised more than $100,000 for the charity.

He also represented Queensland in the Federal Senate from 2008 to 2014.
