A proposed 27 residential lot subdivision at the corner of George and Pine streets, Blackbutt (green area) has been given a six-year extension by the South Burnett Regional Council

A property developer who won approval to convert a large block of land in George Street, Blackbutt, into 27 residential lots has been given an extra six years to turn their plans into reality.

At Wednesday’s monthly Council meeting, Councillors heard a Development Approval that had been issued to Leigh and Cecile Gault in March 2013 to sub-divide the block was about to expire.

The Gaults had requested an extension of the currency period of their original Development Approval to July 19, 2023.

They also requested some minor changes to the conditions of the original approval.

Council officers recommended the requests be granted, and Councillors agreed.

The Gaults’ proposed development was originally lodged with the former Nanango Shire Council in May 2004 and approved by that council in March 2008.

However the Council didn’t issue a Decision Notice to the applicants advising them of its approval, and Nanango Shire Council was dissolved soon afterwards in the 2008 council mergers.

This meant the project had effectively “lain on the table” until it was resubmitted to the South Burnett Regional Council and approved again in 2013.

The project is located next to another 123-lot residential sub-division in Pine Street that was approved in February 2013.

The approval for that project will lapse in 2021.
