South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell and CEO Gary Wall … Mr Wall has announced his plan to retire from the Council in July after a 47-year-career in local government

December 7, 2017

The South Burnett Regional Council’s most senior officer will step down from his post next year.

Chief Executive Officer Gary Wall has told Council staff he will finish work on July 5, 2018.

Mr Wall has worked in local government for 47 years, the majority of which was served with the former Kingaroy Shire Council.

He transferred to the South Burnett Regional Council in 2008, where he was appointed to the position of Finance and IT General Manager.

Mr Wall held this position until November 2014, when he was appointed as the Council’s Acting CEO following the departure of former CEO Ken McLoughlin.

Mr Wall was confirmed in the position in February 2015, beating a field of 45 other applicants for the post.

It is believed Mr Wall has timed his departure to give the Council adequate time to source a replacement.

The July exit date will also allow him to assist in the preparation of the 2017-2018 Budget, and help orient and induct his replacement.

The Council is expected to enlist the help of the Local Government Association Of Queensland to locate a suitable applicant to fill the position, which may include local candidates.

Mr Wall announced his plans in emails sent to Councillors and Council staff.
