December 22, 2017

southburnett.com.au will be taking a short Christmas and New Year break from Saturday, December 23, to Monday, January 23.

However, during these four weeks, we promise to update you if major news stories break, as well as ensure that features such as our advertisers’ specials and our weekly Cinema Guide are regularly updated.

Other services such as the daily TV guide and our seven-day weather outlook will continue to run as normal, too.

We would like sincerely to thank you and all our other readers for the confidence you’ve placed in us over the past year, as well as our advertisers who have trusted us to deliver their messages to you every day.

We’d also like to pass on our special thanks to all the people who have helped us in any way during 2017.

And for anyone who may be wondering how many people read online news, here are a few quick statistics:

In 2017, our weekly readership grew from 39,172 last December to 48,706 this December (for most of the year it ranged between 42,000 and 48,000 per week, steadily climbing as the year progressed).

And so far this month we have received an average of 6958 visitors to our website every day.

All up, our site received more than 2.57 million visits in 2017 and we chewed through slightly more than 1.22 terabytes of bandwidth to do that (sounds geeky, we know, but that’s a lot of bandwidth for a rural news media website).

Anyway, we’ll be back on January 23 for another year – our sixth as the South Burnett’s only locally owned, locally run daily news service.

We would like to wish all our readers a very Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.

Please take care and drive carefully!

  1. Thank you Anne and Dafyd and congratulations on another year of timely, accurate and balanced reporting of our many South Burnett Community events.

Your coverage and support of the positive and other outcomes of our general community and in particular the volunteers involved in ‘not for profit’ organizations events is greatly appreciated.

Wishing you both a peaceful and restful break to recharge your batteries in preparation for what no doubt will be another busy year. May 2018 bring you both good health, happiness and everything you may wish for. Stay safe – looking forward to reading your 2018 articles.
