Former Murgon QAS paramedic Trent Wrayford is a true everyday hero, and now he has a certificate to prove it.

Trent retired from the QAS earlier this year after developing a serious eye condition, but that has not stopped him wanting to help the local community.

He was one of the movers behind the formation of the South Burnett First Aid Volunteers group, which officially opened its new training centre and headquarters in Murgon in July.

Trent was a finalist in the “Achievement” category of the annual QBANK Everyday Heroes awards, which were announced at a lunch in Brisbane on Friday.

The Everyday Heroes awards recognise people who have made an outstanding contribution to the Queensland community or given meritorious service to their association.

QBANK, formerly the Queensland Police Credit Union, says the awards are the organisation’s way of saying “thank you” to people who make a difference in the community.

There are five categories: Achievement, Dedication, Excellence, Ownership, Working Together and Young Everyday Hero.

The five main category winners each received $1000 cash deposited into a QBANK account and $1000 donated to their charity of choice.

The Young Everyday Hero award winner received a $500 bursary towards their training and development.

Cherbourg Fire Station station captain Cameron Bond won the Everyday Hero award for Dedication at the 2016 awards ceremony.

And in 2014, Peter Verbakel, from Kingaroy SES, was a finalist in the Everyday Hero award for Working Together.
