An altercation on a Murgon footpath involving a police officer, local residents and schoolchildren has been referred to the police Ethical Standards Command for investigation.

A video of the incident was posted on Facebook on Thursday afternoon and later shown on Channel 7’s TV news.

By 6:45pm on Friday, the post had been seen 331,000 times, shared 3546 times and had attracted 2200 comments.

“Police are aware of the incident and the matter has been referred to the Ethical Standards Command,” a police media spokesman said.

“As the matter is now under investigation it would inappropriate to comment further at this time.”

The officer allegedly involved has more than 35 years service with the QPS.
