Former Nanango and South Burnett Councillor Barry Green has been elected as the new president of the Nanango Tourism and Development Association (NaTDA).

Mr Green was voted into the position at the group’s Annual General Meeting following past president Gloria Kirkness’ announcement that she wished to step down after several years in the role.

Gloria will now take on the role of Treasurer, Lyndal White will remain as Secretary, and Terry Mackrell will take on the role of Vice President following the passing of former Vice President Danielle Turmaine earlier this year.

Mr Green thanked Mrs Kirkness for her “incredibly hard work” during her term of office, which included NaTDA’s merger with the former Nanango Chamber Of Commerce.

Mr Green said his main aim for the organisation over the coming year was to look at projects which had the potential to increase employment opportunities for Nanango and district residents.

The Nanango New Years Eve Mardi Gras will be changing venues this year, and will relocate from Nanango Showgrounds to Pioneer Park.

The festival will also return to a family-friendly focus, with this year’s event running from 5:00pm to 10:00pm.

The reduced hours will allow families to get their children to bed at as reasonable time, while revellers who want to see in the New Year can do so at Nanango RSL, the town’s hotels or at private New Years Eve parties.

To ensure public safety, alcohol will not be allowed at the Mardi Gras; instead there’ll be food and market stalls, along with inexpensive amusement rides, free face painting for children, light music and a fireworks display around 8:30pm.

Locals who’d like to run a stall at this year’s Mardi Gras should phone Sue on 0411-826-403 or
