The ALP has promised to hire 180 more nurses in the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Services region – the region which includes all South Burnett hospitals – if they are re-elected at the upcoming State election.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk made the commitment on Monday, part of a $167 million, four-year package promised for the State’s 16 hospital and health services.

Labor candidate for Nanango Ben Rankin said the commitment would be an important boost for health services.

“The commitment of additional nurses is in keeping with the government’s investment of more than $60 million in the redevelopment of the Kingaroy Hospital,” he said.

Premier Palaszczuk also promised to employ three new midwives in the DDHHS region and improve nurse-to-patient ratios.
