With construction of the Cooper’s Gap Wind Farm now underway, AGL have opened their new Community Fund and are calling for funding applications from community groups in nearby areas

AGL has opened the first round of its new Community Fund, and is now calling for applications from community groups in Kumbia, Jandowae and Bell.

The fund has been established by the company as part of its Coopers Gap Wind Farm project.

In September AGL announced it would create a $30,000 per annum community fund to foster projects that would create long-lasting benefits for communities located near the wind farm.

However, during the two-year construction phase, the company will kick in an extra $30,000 a year to compensate locals for any disruptions the work may cause.

This meant AGL’s full contribution over the project’s expected operating life would amount to $870,000.

AGL also said the Community Fund would be indexed to ensure it retained its purchasing power; and if any funding failed to be spent in a round, it would be retained for distribution in future funding rounds.

The Community Fund will be administered by a panel of local community representatives and Councillors from the South Burnett and Western Downs Regional Councils, and two grant rounds will be held every year in May and November.

It targets health, social welfare, safety, environment, education and youth, sport, recreation, culture, arts and economic development projects.

The first round of the fund opened for applications on Monday, October 9 and will accept them until 5:00pm on Friday, November 3.

Application forms and guidelines can be downloaded from AGL’s website.
