The South Burnett Women’s AFL season came to a close on Saturday when they lost their Preliminary Final against the Dalby Swans.

The do-or-die game was played at Rockville Oval in Toowoomba.

This is the first time the Saints’ Women have earned their way into the finals, and they should be pleased to have made it to just one game away from the Grand Final.

Unfortunately, for the South Burnett fans, Dalby had the measure of the Saints from the start.

The half-time score was Dalby 7.4 (46) to South Burnett 0.1 (1).

The full-time score was 13.11 (89) to 1.1 (7).

Greer Shepherd kicked the Saints’ sole goal.

Congratulations to Saints’ players Nathan Trace and Keegan Wright who did well at the Darling Downs AFL’s trophy night in Toowoomba on Saturday night.

Trace was runner-up in the prestigious Holman Medal – the highest award in the Darling Downs AFL –  just three votes behind winner David O’Toole from the Goondiwindi Hawks.

And Wright earned the Karl Price Trophy as the best Under 18 player in the Allied Pickford’s Cup.

Wright played 15 games, kicked four goals and  finished equal 18th in the Holman Medal vote count.
