Tuesday’s fortnightly cattle sale in Murgon saw 850 cattle yarded and the market improve slightly in some areas.

Continuing dry weather is now taking a toll on the condition of cattle, and weight loss will continue until there is a break in the season.

Feeder numbers were in short supply with most of the store cattle yarded being weaner age animals.

Cattle were consigned from Mt Perry, Biggenden, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Yarraman, Nanango, Kingaroy and Murgon.

Sale results:

  • Heavy Bulls sold to $2330 and $2.50/kg
  • Cows over 520kg sold to $2.10/kg, averaging $1.99/kg
  • Cows 400–500kg averaged $2.01/kg for a top of $2.12/kg
  • Cows under 400kg sold to $1.85/kg
  • Export type heifers topped at $2.57/kg and $1380
  • 400kg Hereford steers sold to $2.72/kg for $1102
  • Angus steers 465kg returned $1210
  • 355kg Charbray steers from K. Cummings of Coringa sold for $1010 and $2.84/kg
  • 373kg Santa steers from L. Wilson sold to $1020 at $2.73/kg
  • 315kg Angus cross steers from Glenrock Farms sold for $1040 at $2.75/kg
  • A line of Charbray weaner steers from R & F Nichol of Mt Perry sold for a top of $3.39/kg and $810
  • 257kg Charolais cross weaner steers from A & E Grazing of Byrnestown sold to $818 at $3.18/kg
  • Droughtmaster cross heifers weighing 405kg sold for $1042 and $2.57/kg
  • 305kg Angus cross heifers sold to $2.70/kg, returning $824
  • 226kg Angus weaner heifers from Court & Ellerton sold to $3.09/kg for a $700 return
  • Charolais cross weaner heifers weighing 226kg sold to $689 at $3.02/kg
  • Charbray weaner heifers from J & M Kinsella of Manumbar sold to $3.00/kg for $650
  • Better quality weaner heifers sold mainly in the $2.70-$2.90/kg bracket

The next fortnightly catle sale will be held on Tuesday, September 19.
