The Tech Savvy Seniors courses will be held at Winifred Fisher Indigenous Knowledge Centre at Cherbourg

August 23, 2017

Older residents in the Cherbourg, North Burnett and Toowoomba council areas are being given an opportunity to get up to speed with digital technology.

Tech Savvy Seniors courses will be run in libraries and Indigenous Knowledge Centres in the three council areas as part of a State-wide program.

Minister for Innovation Leeanne Enoch said the training sessions would be delivered by experienced facilitators, with all the necessary technology provided.

She said the program would teach older people to use a variety of technologies to help them navigate the evolving digital world.

“This program will provide Queensland’s growing seniors population with the skills needed to securely access essential services online,” Ms Enoch said.

“Tech Savvy Seniors delivers well-paced sessions to help seniors develop a range of useful skills including how to use a smartphone and an iPad, the basics of social media, and how to shop online and access core government services.

“The program strives to get Queensland’s older population online with confidence, help reduce social isolation often experienced from not being digitally connected, and improve resilience to online fraud and financial abuse.”
