St John’s Lutheran School in Kingaroy has shone in the NAPLAN results released on Wednesday, but all South Burnett schools should be happy with their results.

The National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy.

The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority’s raw data shows Fairholme College at Toowoomba achieved some of the best results in the State.

southburnett.com.au compared the Year 9 results for all South Burnett schools, see below, which showed that St John’s actually outscored Fairholme in a couple of categories.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Queensland as a whole had posted some of its best NAPLAN results ever.

Private schools dominated the top levels, but State schools also enjoyed good results.

Premier Palaszczuk congratulated the 240,000 Queensland school students who completed their tests in May.

“I’m pleased to say that our students have recorded some of their highest scores since NAPLAN testing began in 2008,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

She said the results confirmed a long-term trend of lifting literacy and numeracy across the State.

“My government has employed more than 3095 extra teachers and teacher aides to improve education in Queensland State schools,” she said.

The one weak area where Queensland students performed poorly was in writing skills, where average results for students in all grades either stayed relatively flat or declined against baseline results recorded in 2011.

Individual schools will receive their students’ NAPLAN results from Wednesday.

The final national report is due to be released in December.

Here’s how South Burnett Year 9 students performed against one of the State’s top schools, Fairholme College, this year:

Note: It should be remembered that NAPLAN results are only based on students who took part in the NAPLAN tests
