South Burnett Saints' women's team faced Dalby in Kingaroy on Saturday

July 17, 2017

South Burnett Saints have moved up to equal second place on the Darling Downs AFL ladder after defeating Coolaroo in Toowoomba on Saturday.

The Roos are still ahead of the Saints on for / against but both teams are locked on 28 points, behind University Cougars on 40.

Saturday’s game against the Roos, played at Kratzke Oval at Highfields, was a low-scoring arm-wrestle with the Saints eventually finishing on top, 10-9 (69) to 7-9 (51).

Coolaroo was ahead at the first change, but South Burnett enjoyed a strong second quarter.

The half-time score was 6-3 (39) to 3-4 (22).

Coolaroo fought back in the third, but the Saints held on to go into the last with a slender lead which they extended before the full-time siren.

Saints goal kickers were Jordan Pressnell (3), Peter Hourn (2), Nathan Trace (2), Paul Judge (2) and Mitchell Francis.

South Burnett will take on top-of-the-table University Cougars next Saturday at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy.

This is certain to be an interesting game, with Cougars sure to be still smarting from their Round 8 defeat, also at Lyle Vidler.

The Cougars have only lost only one game so far this year, and that was against the Saints in Kingaroy last month.

The final score was Swans 16-14 (110) to SaintsĀ 4-1 (25).

Saints’ goals were kicked by Ashleigh Irvine (2), Jenille Pasfield and Samantha Snow.

The team’s next game will be against Lockyer-Warwick on Saturday at WCU Oval in Warwick.
