Murgon will soon get three new directory signs to help tourists and new residents find their way around the town.

The design for the new signboards was unveiled on Friday morning at the Murgon Business and Development Association’s (MBDA) monthly breakfast meeting.

Two of the new signboards will be erected at the Yallakool Tourist Park and at Lions Park.

After discussion with the South Burnett Regional Council, the MBDA hope the third signboard will be set up in QEII Park in the heart of town, opposite Murgon’s Visitor Information Centre.

The new signboards feature street maps of Murgon, along with a list of streets and features like churches, sports venues, medical centres and schools that can be located by map references.

The boards also list the town’s major annual events and the months they are held in, and carry advertisements for Murgon businesses.

The project was undertaken by MBDA president Leo Geraghty and has been under development for the past year.

The new signboards will replace earlier ones obsoleted by business changes over many years.

The MBDA hope the new signboards will be erected in the next few weeks.

The group plan to refresh the boards with updated advertisements every two to three years.
