St Mary’s Catholic College is a bit like Dr Who’s Tardis … it’s a lot bigger on the inside than it is on the outside.

Principal Angela Myles said people visiting for the school’s Open Day on Saturday kept commenting on how big the school actually was.

“People are surprised. They look at the buildings at the front and think that’s all there is, but then they walk through and see that the college goes on and on out the back,” she said.

Mrs Myles said there had been a constant flow of visitors during the Open Day, and she was pleased there had been a lot of interest in the school.

CROW-FM were set up outside, with Chris “Corky” Corcoran broadcasting from Kent Street and Denise Keelan handing out balloons and other goodies to visitors as they arrived.

Families explored the classrooms and facilities with the help of student tour leaders.

While parents chatted with teachers, there were plenty of activities to keep younger visitors occupied including free face painting, colouring in, activities in the classrooms and a jumping castle.

One of the highlights of the day was a scavenger hunt where children were rewarded with a Freddo frog.

The St Mary’s Parents and Friends Association also put on a free sausage sizzle to keep everyone well fed.
