The State Government will spend more than $108 million in the South Burnett and nearby areas over the coming year, according to the 2017-2018 State Budget handed down on Tuesday.
But aside from an initial $8 million in funding for a new Kingaroy Hospital, many of the other local projects mentioned in Tuesday’s Budget are either a continuation of current projects or have been previously announced.
Spends mentioned in the 2017-18 Budget papers include:
- $50.5 million for Meandu Mine – develop the mining extension area, replace fleet equipment, and replace and refurbish minor assets
- $12.9 million for spillway and side wall repairs at Boondooma Dam (out of a $46.2 million total spend)
- $11.389 million to upgrade Cherbourg wastewater infrastructure (out of a $14.9 million total spend)
- $8 million for an overhaul at Tarong North Power Station
- $4.7 million for overtaking lanes on the New England Highway between Yarraman and Toowoomba, due for completion in December 2017 (out of a $7 million total spend)
- $4.3 million to continue the Kingaroy Courthouse upgrade (out of a $5.3 million total spend)
- $3.6 million for a new multi-purpose hall at Kingaroy State High School (out of a $3.9 million total spend)
- $1.8 million to repair the Burnett Highway between Goomeri and Gayndah (out of a $2.2 million total spend)
- $1.4 million Graham House Neighbourhood Centre replacement (out of a $2.86 million total spend)
- $1.1 million to refurbish the Tarong Pipeline
- $900,000 for Kilkivan Auxiliary Fire and Rescue station relocation and upgrade (out of a $1.8 million total spend)
