Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien has released the names of the winners of his “Wide Bay In Pictures” competition.
In November last year, Mr O’Brien invited primary and secondary students in his electorate – which includes many South Burnett schools – to submit photographs or drawings which highlighted the diversity and beauty of Wide Bay.
He said a selection of the pictures would be printed on canvas and put on display in his Parliament House office.
“I was really impressed by the quality of the entries that were submitted by school students from all over the Wide Bay electorate,” Mr O’Brien said last week.
“It made the task of selecting just two pictures each from students from the Noosa Council; Fraser Coast Regional Council; Gympie Regional Council; and South Burnett Regional Council and Cherbourg Aboriginal Council (combined) very difficult.
“Students captured the diversity of Wide Bay in their scores of photographic and artistic entries, with images depicting coastal sunsets, heritage buildings, scenic hinterland and productive agriculture, as well as some very creative works.
“Wide Bay is a great place to live and work and it is very encouraging to see the pride that young people take in highlighting the parts of our region that are special to them.”
Mr O’Brien said works by the following students had been selected to be reproduced on canvas for his office:
- Lan Geromet (Tewantin State School)
- Thys Benade (Noosa Christian College)
- Fayanne Gibson (Murgon High School)
- Lewis Hopkins (Cherbourg State School)
- James Anderson (Tinana State School)
- Kaitlin Francis (Maryborough High School)
- Ellouisa Smith (Victory College)
- Skye Hanson (Kilkivan State School)
“The students’ pictures will be a focal point in my Parliament House office, and become a conversation piece about Wide Bay’s beauty, to encourage people to come to our electorate to experience all Wide Bay has to offer,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Every student who entered the competition will receive a special Certificate of Appreciation, and each winning school’s P&C committee will receive a $200 donation.
“I thank the schools for encouraging their students to enter the Wide Bay in Pictures competition, and I especially thank the students for their wonderful contributions.”
