New administration and classroom buildings at St John’s Lutheran School in Kingaroy were officially opened on Monday.

Students and staff at St John’s Lutheran School now have full use of new general and specialist learning areas, administration offices and meeting rooms, a reception area and amenities, thanks to $355,000 in funding from the Federal Government’s Capital Grants Program.

Member for Maranoa David Littleproud officially opened the new buildings on behalf of Education and Training Minister Simon Birmingham.

Mr Birmingham is responsible for the Capital Grants Program which provides funding for non-government schools to improve infrastructure where they otherwise might not have access to sufficient capital resources.

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington, Member for Murrumba Chris Whiting, South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell, Cr Ros Heit and officials from Lutheran Education Queensland were also in attendance, along with parents and students.

“It was great to visit St John’s Lutheran School and see the new facilities first hand and the impact they will have,” Mr Littleproud said.

“Students and the whole school community will benefit from using the new facilities.

“These new learning spaces take into account the latest advances in education research, and will see students learn more effectively.”

Mr Littleproud said the government was providing higher levels of school funding than ever before.

Nationally, funding growth will rise from $16.1 billion this year to $20.2 billion in 2020.

In future, all funding will be allocated based on need, and will be tied to a range of evidence-based initiatives to support students by focussing on outcomes in literacy, numeric and STEM subjects, helping lift teacher quality and better preparing children for life after school.
