The South Burnett Saints will be looking forward to their first home match of the season on Saturday after their third trip in a row to Toowoomba to play at the weekend.

But like previous weeks, the trek came to nothing with the Saints gaining no points on the ladder.

This time they faced South Toowoomba at home, which was always going to be a tough ask against last year’s grand finalists.

However, the Bombers have also had a slow start to 2017 and were also coming into the game with with no wins under their belt.

The Saints gave the Bombers a strong run for their money in the first half, and actually out-goalled then 4-3 in the second quarter.

The half-time score was South Toowoomba 7.7 (49) to South Burnett 6.5 (41).

The Bombers increased their lead in the third-quarter but then ran away in the last, finishing ahead 15.11 (101) to 10.8 (68).

South Burnett goals were kicked by Joseph Amery (4), Jack Hourn (3), Nathan Trace (2) and Adam Bowater.

The Saints’ next game will be against Coolaroo at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy on Saturday afternoon.

The South Burnett Women’s AFL team also didn’t enjoy their trip to Toowoomba.

The final score was South Toowoomba 26.17 (173), South Burnett 2.0 (12). The Saints’ goals were both kicked by Greer Shepherd.

The women will get a second chance against the Bombers when they re-meet on Saturday in Kingaroy.
