Saints’ defenders kept the Hawks in check as the margin between the teams grew

South Burnett Saints have enjoyed back-to-back home games and notched up back-to-back wins in Round 5 of the Darling Downs AFL competition.

The Saints took on the Goondiwindi Hawks on Saturday at Lyle Vidler Oval in one of the best games seen in Kingaroy for some time.

The teams got off to an even start, with the Hawks just in the lead at the first change.

But the South Burnett kicked into gear in the second quarter to be leading by 54 points at half-time.

From there, the Saints couldn’t be stopped, finishing more than 100 points ahead, 27.14 (176) to 11.8 (74), at full-time.

Saints’ goals were kicked by Nathan Trace (8), Jordan Pressnell (6), Kieran Askin (3), Joseph Amery (2), Keegan Wright (2), Mathew Flanigan (2), Jack Hourn (2), Braeden Snow and Adam Bowater.

The Saints’ now will enjoy a week off. Their next game will be back in Kingaroy on June 3 against the Toowoomba Tigers.

As the game wore on, the Saints became more and more dominant

South Burnett women’s team had a bye on Saturday. Their next game will also be on June 3 in Kingaroy against the Tigers.
