Former Nanango police Officer-in-Charge, retired Senior Sergeant Kevin Guteridge, was killed in a head-on crash near Tiaro on Monday morning.

A police spokesman said initial information suggested that about 10:50am, a sedan was travelling northbound on Netherby Road when it was involved in a collision with a 4WD towing a caravan heading south.

Mr Guteridge, 86, from Hervey Bay, died at the scene.

His wife Cynthia, 84, was airlifted to Sunshine Coast Hospital in a stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

A man and woman in the 4WD did not suffer any physical injuries.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Mr Guteridge is the father of Murgon Officer-in-Charge Senior Sergeant Lance Guteridge.

Kevin Guteridge was Officer-in-Charge at Nanango from 1977-79.
