FLASHBACK: Alex Dunemann, right, hoists the premiership shield after captaining the Kingaroy U12s to a Grand FInal win in 2012; fast forward to 2017 and Alex will be hoping to repeat this success on a much bigger scale this weekend

May 2, 2017

Former Red Ant player Alex Dunemann will be facing the biggest game of his short rugby league career this weekend when he runs out with the Western Mustangs in the Grand Final of the Mal Meninga Cup.

It’s the first year for the Mustangs in the competition, which is the premier statewide competition for U18s.

The Mal Meninga cup was shortened this year which explains why the Grand Final is being played this Sunday (May 7) at Langlands Park in Coorparoo.

The Mustangs, who defeated Easts Tigers 29-22 last week to earn a spot in the Grand Final, will be coming up against the Souths Logan Magpies.

It should be a tight game with the teams featuring the two top point scorers so far in the competition: Cory Paix (Western Mustangs) 98 points, and Tanah Boyd (Souths Logan Magpies) 81 points.

Paix scored a try and kicked six goals during the Mustangs’ final win over Easts; Dunemann also added to the points total with a field goal.
