A power outage that blacked out about 14,000 homes and businesses in the South Burnett on Thursday evening was linked to an issue at Ergon Energy’s Kingaroy substation.
Residents from Cooyar to Tingoora, west to Boondooma and east to Benarkin lost power, including the major centres of Blackbutt, Nanango, Kumbia, Kingaroy, Wooroolin and Tingoora.
An Ergon Energy spokesman said power was interrupted at 6:17pm during a storm that had resulted in a protection system operating at the substation being tripped.
After testing, crews re-set some equipment, enabling power to be restored to all customers between 7:07pm and 7:09pm.
About 150 Kingaroy residents later lost power again for a short time at 4:11am.
