Former Cherbourg resident Shaleise Law was presented with her official Brisbane Lions playing jumper at the launch of the inaugural Women’s AFL season on Tuesday.

Shaleise played for the Lions during the AFL’s special 10-match Exhibition Series in 2016 which was organised as a lead-up to the full women’s competition this year.

At the draft, Shaleise was described by the Lions as “small, lightning fast, has defensive pressure and kicks freak goals”.

The inaugural women’s competition will be made up of eight teams: four from Victoria and one each from Queensland, NSW, South Australia and Western Australia.

The Lions notched up their first win for 2017 against GWS Giants at Coorparoo in a practise game played in the rain.

The season proper will kick off this Friday and run for just seven weeks.

  • Friday at Ikon Park, Carlton – Carlton v Collingwood
  • Saturday at Thebarton Oval, Adelaide – Adelaide v GWS Giants
  • Saturday at Whitten Oval, Footscray – Western Bulldogs v Fremantle
  • Sunday at Casey Fields, Cranbourne East – Melbourne v Brisbane Lions
