Almost 40 teams have registered for this weekend’s huge Soccer Sevens carnival at Tom Alford Oval in Kingaroy, ensuring an influx of visitors to the South Burnett.

The popular annual carnival, organised by the Kingaroy Senior Soccer Club for more than 30 years, attracts teams from Brisbane, Hervey Bay, Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast to compete in three divisions: Open Men, Women and Over 35s.

Carnival convener Thomas Carroll said 18 teams had registered for this year’s Open Men’s competition, 11 for the Women’s and 10 for the Over 35s.

Teams from Kingaroy, Barambah and Nanango clubs will be playing to uphold the honour of the South Burnett, which should ensure there will be fierce competition for spectators to enjoy during the super short seven-a-side matches.

Many of the players were practising hard on Wednesday night to tune up their skills for the weekend.

Five fields will be operation at Tom Alford Oval to cater for the large number of games.

Games kick off at 10:00am on Saturday and will run continuously until 5:00pm.

On Sunday, games start at 8:20am.

The Over 35s’ final will be played at 1:30pm, followed by the Women’s final at 2:00pm, and the Open Men’s final at 2:30pm.

Presentation of trophies will be at 3:00pm.

South Burnett residents have been invited to come along and cheer on the local teams.

A bar and a canteen will be operating at the Kingaroy Senior Soccer Clubhouse on both days.
