Taylors Road-Bunya Highway intersection, north Kingaroy
Black spot funding has been earmarked by the Federal Government for a separate left turn lane for vehicles travelling south at the intersection of the Bunya Highway and Taylors Road

December 15, 2016

A three-vehicle pile-up occurred at one of Kingaroy’s most notorious intersections on Wednesday night.

About 7:30pm, a vehicle travelling towards Kingaroy on the Bunya Highway slowed to turn left into Taylors Road.

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, said a second vehicle also slowed but a third vehicle hit the back of the second, which then hit the first.

“Fortunately no one was seriously injured but all three vehicles were towed from the scene,” Snr Sgt Frank said.

He said it was a timely reminder that drivers should always follow other vehicles at a safe distance, allowing enough room to stop safely.

“Police will be alleging the third vehicle was too close,” Snr Sgt Frank said.

Earlier on Wednesday, SBRC Roads Portfolio chair Cr Spud Jones told fellow Councillors that a project to upgrade the intersection was now underway.

Cr Jones said design work on upgrading the intersection has begun.

When complete, a right turn treatment, and a separate left turn lane for vehicles travelling south, will be installed.

The Taylors Road intersection is a notorious black spot that has seen several serious crashes in recent years.

It attracted $600,000 in Federal Government Black Spot funding for the upgrade in April.

Designs for the upgrade will need approval from the Department Of Main Roads before work can commence.

  1. Hope they also get a stop sign that works. The existing one must be broken because I’ve lost count of the amount of drivers that don’t even come close to stopping going through that intersection
