The last few days have been a “horrific” time on South Burnett roads, say local police.

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, said the trauma began last Thursday afternoon.

A 56-year-old Murgon man suffered serious leg injuries when he lost control of his Honda Goldwing motorbike on Peterson Drive at Taabinga.

The motorbike ran off the road and hit gravel.

Then on Saturday morning, two women were injured – one seriously – when their Honda motorbike ran off the Bunya Highway at Inverlaw (see separate report)

On Sunday morning, police and emergency crews were confronted with the fatal head-on crash between a semi-trailer and a Holden Statesman on the D’Aguilar Highway near Nanango (see separate report)

At 12:30am on Monday morning, a Ford Falcon travelling from Kingaroy to Nanango left the road, hit a culvert and rolled several times.

The 23-year-old Nanango man who was driving freed himself from the wreckage.  He was then taken to Kingaroy Hospital for assessment

Snr Sgt Frank said checks revealed he was a suspended driver; blood specimens were taken at the hospital to check for alcohol and drugs.

At 1:00pm on Saturday, police conducting mobile radar intercepts on the Kingaroy-Cooyar Road near Kingaroy pulled over a Subaru being driven by a 62-year-old Ellesmere man.

Police allege the man was doing 154km/h in the 100km/h zone.

“He told police he was just taking the car for a run after he’d done some work on it,” Snr Sgt Frank said.

Because he was travelling more than 40km/h above the speed limit, the driver will automatically lose his licence as well as receive a $1137 infringement notice.
