December 23, 2016

southburnett.com.au will be taking a short Christmas and New Year break from Saturday, December 24, to Monday, January 16.

However, during these three weeks, we promise to update you if major news stories break, as well as ensuring that features such as our advertisers’ specials and our weekly Cinema Guide are regularly updated.

Services such as the daily TV guide and our seven-day weather outlook will continue to run as normal, too.

We would like sincerely to thank all our readers for the confidence you’ve placed in us over the past year, as well as our advertisers who have trusted us to deliver their messages to you every day.

Special thanks, too, to all the people who have helped us in any way this year!

And for anyone who may still be wondering if people really do read online news, here are a few quick statistics:

In 2016, our weekly readership grew from 28,266 in January to 39,172 in December (for most of the year it ranged between 33,000 and 38,000 per week).

So far in December we have received an average of 5596 visitors to our website every day.

All up, our site received more than 1.77 million visitors in 2016 and we chewed through close to 500 gigabytes of bandwidth to do that (sounds geeky, we know, but that’s a lot of bandwidth for a website).

Google tell us that in any 30-day period we now reach 23,257 unique human beings – that is, South Burnett residents just like you – and over two-thirds of you are regular readers.

Google also tell us that 54 per cent of you are males, 46 per cent are females; 60 per cent of you are aged 18-34, while most of the balance are aged 35-plus.

We’ll be back on January 16 for another year – our fifth as the South Burnett’s only locally owned, locally run daily news service.

We would like to wish all our readers a very Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.

Please take care and drive carefully!

  2. Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy & prosperous new year! Thanks Anne & Dafyd for your dedication to our wonderful community! Your enthusiasm & extensive coverage of all things local is such a bonus. Many community events would get no promotion at all if it wasn’t for your hard work & diligence. Enjoy your much deserved rest & I look forward to seeing your smiling faces and unbiased reporting in 2017. Steph

  3. Thank you for the effort and the coverage that you give to the South Burnett. Wishing you both all the very best for the new year. Jane

  4. More needs to be done to promote the area … maybe a short video would be a start. There also needs to be a more positive attitude, with our council and business leaders putting forward positive suggestions. We need to look at a bigger picture.
