Wood sculptor Shane Christensen will be in Blackbutt this Friday and Saturday (October 28-29) to hold two workshops for South Burnett woodworkers.
Shane uses chainsaws, carving tools and an air brush to create unique wooden artworks.
In addition to showing how he does this, he’ll also be providing advice on tools, techniques and finishing.
Shane will be running the workshops at the Timbertowns Woodworkers Shed at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road.
The first workshop will be held on Friday from 10:30am to 3:00pm and the second on Saturday from 9:00am to 2:00pm.
Shane’s visit to the region has been funded by a grant from Regional Arts Australia.
“The Blackbutt Avocado Festival committee was successful in a funding application to engage Shane for workshops with the Timbertown Woodworkers Group,” BAF Chairman Jeff Connor said.
“Shane’s two workshops this weekend will offer new skills to our already talented woodworkers, and may ultimately lead them to create new public infrastructure for the town and along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail.”
The Shane Christensen workshops are in addition to a workshop being run by artist Cary McAulay at Nukku Nook on Friday from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
At that workshop, guests will learn how to create designs and artworks for the Stanwell Connecting Heart to Hart Project, where their painting will be transferred to a ceramic tile that will become part of the Scott Haven community space and gardens.
