The entrance to Tarong and Tarong North power stations … white collar workers are facing redundancies

October 12, 2016

Rumours that Stanwell Corporation plans to cut white-collar positions at Tarong Power Station have been confirmed by southburnett.com.au

“Preliminary discussions” were held on Tuesday with a number of employees at the power station in various corporate roles.

Representatives from Stanwell in Brisbane reportedly told these workers their positions at Tarong may become redundant.

A source at the power station told southburnett.com.au it had been evident for some time that pressure was being put on Stanwell by the State Government to either raise income or cut costs.

“It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that this (job cutbacks) was on the cards,” the source said.

Stanwell has a policy of “no forced redundancies” which employees are now hoping will also apply to the non-unionised workforce at the power station.
