At least 15 black soil farmers in the South Burnett will be the focus of a new Better Catchments Cropping program being co-ordinated locally by the Burnett Catchment Care Association.

The program will run until 2018 and aims to support projects which will improve long-term farm sustainability.

Funding will be provided by the Federal Government’s National Landcare Program.

The Burnett Catchment Care Association (BCCA) has been working with Bean Growers Australia agronomists, DAF and the GRDC to develop the project.

Small grants will be provided to kick-start on-farm projects, followed by one-on-one property visits.

There will also be technical workshops for all black soil growers scheduled over the next two years.
