Stanwell has released a statement in relation to planned job cuts at Tarong Power Station, emphasising there will be no forced redundancies.

“On October 11, Stanwell made preliminary decisions to change the workforce structures of some of its corporate support functions across the business, with a focus on improving efficiency by rationalising some back-office support functions,” the release stated.

“In recent weeks, Stanwell has reviewed corporate support structures at its Brisbane and Rockhampton offices and Tarong Power Stations to ensure it has the right skills and capabilities to remain commercially sustainable well into the future.”

Stanwell CEO Richard Van Breda said a consultation process had begun with potentially affected employees and relevant unions and a final decision on workforce structure changes would be made early next month.

“There will, however, absolutely be no forced redundancies,” Mr Van Breda said.

Stanwell recently decided to close its Rockhampton corporate office and relocate its employees to the nearby Stanwell Power Station.

“As a result of this decision, there will be no forced redundancies of those employees and Stanwell will substantially reduce its corporate costs,” the statement concluded.
